We Need Some POA Drydock Updates

Recommended Posts

I keep clicking on the NCL POA webcam and can see our beautiful vessel secure in her Pearl Harbor cradle but am really needing some intel, photos and updates on just what has been accomplished in 10 of the 14 days there.

Of course, due diligence has already been done so far as reading up re the new carpets, signage, Aloha Cafe refreshing, new WiFi, new flat screen TVs vs clunky small CRTs, steakhouse morphing into line's Cagney's and at some point, a spot for Moderno (can't wait!), and the new suites et al.

But, with all the talent, brains and insider stuff here...can anyone please help? :D

This is SUPER!!! And I just happened to know you've been in touch with NCL inquiring about our new little Brazilian jewel...makes me a bit happier that we are booked 3 weeks after DD, so they can have those shakedown cruises, iron out any little wrinkles and hopefully have the staff retrained as passadores :p Fingers crossed!

Some nice recent Moderno foodie photos here:

Thanks again my friend!

I love Moderno and have my fingers crossed that it will be open by the time we cruise (and you, too!). I'll keep poking around for info :D

They are also adding studio cabins

You are absolutely right...I didn't mention them in the OP as there are only four

IMHO we'll need at least 12 and then our own little Living Room...

I just booked my restaurant reservations for our late May cruise today. Although Cagney's is listed as the restaurant choice available, when you get your confirmation, it's still Lazy Js. I'm sure they just haven't updated their software yet. No Brazillian steakhouse yet - I think that's one of the last things from my understanding because they are building a new venue, not changing an existing one.

I heard/read the new Brazil place will be on the aft deck where the Aloha Lanai buffet area is.

Yes, at least part of the Aloha is becoming Moderno - that I've received confirmation of, but not exactly WHEN it will open. Here's what I heard via email from the pre-cruise concierge:

During the dry dock refurbishment, Moderno is scheduled to be added as a new venue. This should be available shortly after the dry dock is completed. Once the website is updated, this will be displayed on deck 11.

I now see a little Single's lounge that wasn't mentioned in the initial Publicity releases, on the NCL website deck plans. Cagney's shows up as well...Cadillac Diner still there, thought I heard/read or dreamt  somewhere that it was being revamped as the more typical Blue Lagoon...

As far as Moderno Churrascaria...savvy CCers have it plunked down toward the rear of Aloha Cafe/Buffet area...though I certainly hope it doesn't take up all the dining al fresco territory...The menu is so limited, meat, meat, more meat, a trio of sides, a trio of deserts and the salad bar, that I tend to doubt there would be too much revamping...but again time will tell :p

I am a vegetarian and love the Braziilian restaurant. The salad bar is wonderful and I ask for lots of grilled pineapple. Can skip those sides they give you at the table. My husband is the meat eater, so going there is great for us. If it's available by the end of May, I'll probably be changing one of my nights at Jefferson's Bistro to Brazilian night!

Moderno has now been added to the deck plans on deck 11 aft, as expected! It's not yet listed elsewhere on the site, but this is a good step one :D. However, it is very much still under construction.

Thanks for the great photos and intel, puddles!

Any word on whether or not the suites on deck 12 are closed to passengers? Or any photos of the new suites construction on deck 13?

Just wondering since we will be on deck 11 in July.

My heroine!!! Many thanks XO Love this latest update...thinking 3 to 7 more days and then the training phase...

Also lovin' the fact the Aloha Lanai has been spared...now need some food porn (gathered from various CCers and own experiences of course)

ps_2012_06_03___11_29_43_zpsc50b876a.jpg

Uber unflattering photo: both beyond stuffed, I had to hang onto the rail for support whle all my blood supply was busy digesting...dessert had to be to go!

ModernoNCLwonderfulsucculentlamb_zps3109fd8d.jpg

The succulent lamp chops were by far my favorites...after a while the passadores learned we wanted medium rare and no more burnt offerings

This also wised us up to not taking the first selection off a new skewer as the meats would be well done regardless. Also, the chicken breast wrapped in bacon would seem a flavorful choice but the leg marinated in lime juice was just so much better...

NCLModeronlimemarinateddrumsticksandbaconwrappedchickenbreast_zpsec5b5afa.jpg

A definite learning curve! Who knew the filet mignon would be dry and usually tough while the special sirloin (cap) would be so toothsome and juicy? I guess the grade of beef and marbling would have something to do with all that...(those charcoal briquettes in the back are the slices of filet)

The sides were mostly pedestrian, more of what I would consider filler material. A single trip to the salad bar, a queso roll or two and I was set, except for this most delicious palate cleanser:

Modernopineappleonaskewer_zps06caa09b.jpg

Grilled pineapple hit the spot without being too filling

Modernococonutflan_zps825e501d.jpg and finally, Coconnut Flan was the nicest of the 3 light desserts IMHO

I've heard that they've moved folks off of deck 12 during construction on deck 13 which will continue through the summer. I haven't seen any pics of those areas, so I can't say or sure.

You're welcome! It's kind of good to have a mission so I annoy DH a bit less with my POA-planning obsessions :p I'm glad that the outdoor section of the buffet was saved and I'm guessing that seating will be available in Moderno when it's not open for dinner (similar to other ships).

Love the food porn, too . . . DH is going to be a very, very sad boy if Moderno isn't open when we sail, but I think there's a fairly good chance they'll have it ready by then!
