Just back from weekend on Majesty of the Seas-Review

Recommended Posts

Well what can I say? Once again Royal Caribbean has lived up to my expectations and delivered me with a great vacation. My wife and I have previously sailed on the Voyager and the Navigator and were very impressed and pleased with the large ships and the service that we recieved. We were in need of a short 3 night getaway and I must admit that I was skeptical when I booked for the Majesty because it would be smaller and shorter than what we were used to. Now that we have done it I would have no questions about sailing again on a short cruise on a smaller ship. The Majesty is in great shape for her age and RCCL takes great care of it.

The production shows onboard are some of the best I have seen on RCCL. Aside from the ice shows on the Voyager class I would have to say that the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers were the best that we have seen. We were very impressed. There was no lack of effort even though it was a smaller ship with a shorter itinerary. The featured entertainers were good, with the exception of one. Unfortunately I don't even think RCCL could have known that this performer was going to be this bad. I felt bad for the performer because alot of people were getting up and leaving right in the middle of the performance. I refused to do that but in the end wished that I had not attended that show. Fortunately it is not a normal entertainer on the Majesty and this performer was scheduled to depart in Miami. The cruise director was Warren Allen. He and his staff did an excellent job keeping the energy going even though it was a short cruise. Warren probably isn't the funniest CD that you could have but he did do a great job and kept everyone entertained.

The service onboard was excellent. Everything we have come to expect from RCCL. We had cabin 8028 and our cabin attendent worked very hard to keep our rooms looking nice everytime that we came back to it. Dining room service and bar service was excellent also.

Embarkation and check in was a breeze. We arrived at the terminal around 12:30PM, unloaded our luggage and parked the car. Within 15 minutes we had gone through security, gotten our Sea pass cards, and were onboard eating at the Windjammer. It was the fastest check in that we have ever had yet. The fact that it is a smaller ship may have something to do with that. Disembarkation was just as easy. We remained in our cabin until 7:45AM at which time we heard our tag called. We headed to deck four and left the ship, went through customs, retrieved our luggage, and was on the road by 8:15AM.

The food was good. I can't say it's the best I've had. I would have to give that moniker to the Voyager. Presentation was excellent and the dining room food was better than the Windjammer which is to be expected.

Cococay and Nassau were our two ports of call on this sailing. We really enjoyed Cococay. It was nice just to lay out and relax and go swimming. We have been to Labadee as well and I probably prefer Labadee over Cococay simply because the scenery is better but all in all they are very similar. We had a much better time in Nassau than we did the last time we were there. Last time it rained all day long and it was miserable. This time we got off of the ship for about 4 hours and went shopping along Bay Street within walking distance from the port. BUYER BEWARE-avoid the hair braiding ladies that will stalk you when you get off of the ship. We didn't get drawn into this trap this time but we did last time. You will be sorry as they literally charge an arm and a leg just to braid your hair. We didn't go to Atlantis. We had been there previously and to us it is just a big grand hotel. If you have ever been to a fancy hotel that has a casino (ie. Vegas) then you have basically seen Atlantis.

The loyalty ambassador for Crown and Anchor members was great. We went and saw her on the first night of the cruise. Her name was Colleen. We had a bunch of questions for her regarding booking for Freedom of the Seas and also for the Brilliance of the Seas. She answered every question we had and if she didn't have an answer right away she made sure she got an answer for it and had it typed up and sent to our stateroom. We did reserve a booking for the Freedom of the Seas for next July and we cannot wait until that ship sails. We did not get to book for the Brilliance of the Seas yet. The dates we need are for 2007 and they are not available yet.

All in all it was a great trip. Very relaxing which is exactly what we were looking for. We would definitely sail again on the Majesty if we needed a little 3 day getaway.

If anyone has any questions feel free to submit them and I will get to them as soon as I can.

We agree that the Majesty is a great ship, we have done two sailings on her, both were the 5 days and they were great, we like the big ships but the smaller ones I think are great too.
