Alcohol pricing?

Beer $4.25, martinis in the Martini Bar (4 oz) $10.29 including the 15%. Bottles of wine in the dining room, decent ones can be had in the $30 range, plus the 15%.

There is a drink of the day at a special price everyday. Look in the daily for that. Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers, $4.25 everyday in the am.

If you'd like to see menus and prices from the various bars and the dining room wine list, drop me a line at earl dot anderson at comcast dot net and I'll send them to you as PDF files.

I don't get what everyone was complaining about for drink prices. Here when you go to a restaurant, a beer or mixed drink is around 5 bucks. Same on the ship- most beers were around that, and mixed drinks other than martinis were maybe $5-6.

I didn't think the bar prices were unreasonable at all, and I'm Canadian so we have the exchange as well.

Hi SusieV... A 12oz bottle of domestic beer in the Toronto area is usually in the $3.50 CA range. A 20oz draft is in the $5- 5.50 range. Celebrity charges $4.25 US for a 12oz can of domestic. That is approx. $5.50 CA. It certainly can add up over a 10 day cruise.

Macmax. A ripoff is when you are charged more than the published price or you receive a substandard product for your money. When you receive exactly what is offered and for the published/quoted price then you have consumated a business deal.

What a business pays wholesale for a resell product is of no concern to the retail consumer. It's business common sense to buy at the best possible price and sell at the market. Based on my observation on 18 cruises, the cruiselines have found/established the market prices. Buying a drink is a personal choice option. It's not a necessity. Don't like the pricing, don't buy one.

You can leave a paticular bar if you don't like the pricing. Maybe head down the street to something a little less pricey. Cruise lines have got us by the short and curllys when it comes to options and choices. Don't confuse that with market conditions and what not. They charge higher prices because they can! Why doesn't celebrity allow you to purchase alcohol at a reasonable price for in room consumption. Save the speeches. Their sister company RC has reasonable rates from what i understand. It's seems that RC and X have established two different market prices.

Both cruiselines are owned by the same corporation, however, they are different cruiselines with different proritys and policys. Further they have different (somewhat) targeted demographics. One is a very active type cruise with rockwall climbing, inline skating track, extremely large ships and promote onboard activities over the PA such as bingo, pool games and the like. The other is a more refined, quiet, somewhat dressier and a little bit more grownup cruise experience. Each is distinctive in it's own way. As for onboard prices, they are excessive when purchasing drops to an unacceptable level. It's a business that is responsible to the shareholders who managment has to answer to. I've had several very good cruises on both lines, and hope to have more.

By the way, a few years ago on a cruise port call I visited Atlantis in Nassau.

Ordered a draft beer. Price: $5.80 plus tip. I don't drink at Atlantis anymore. And I've never won one thin dime on their slots.

A couple years later in NYC I stopped at a Friday's (I think). Draft (john adams). Price: $7.00 plus tip. Now I don't frequent Friday's on Broadway in NYC.

Interesting that both establishments were doing very good business.

I do not have a problem with the alcohol pricing on the ship. I view a ship as a floating hotel/resort. Most resorts and all hotels allow you to bring alcohol purchased elsewhere to your rooms. I'm spending a week on a ship, not a day. I think it would be great if they allowed a minimal amount of personal alcohol to be brought on the ship and consumed in the privacy of our stateroom. I don't think i should be able too carry this personal alcohol around the ship. I wouldn't carry it in the hallways of a hotel room. I have been to many bars and paid 6-10 per drink and will return. That is not the problem and i think you've missed the point.

That's nothing. I had the french toast there ($12!) a couple of years ago, and it wasn't even any good! Great place to walk through, though. The glass in the casino is nothing less than amazing.

I found the prices were just the same as they are here in Boston - even a little cheaper sometimes. And considering the price includes the gratuity for the server, I thought they were reasonable. The Celebrity.com site has a price list but you have to do a search for it.

I too think the drink prices are reasonable if not inexpensive. I live in the Baltimore area and usually pay between 5.50 and 7.00 for a margarita, my personal favorite, so going on board and paying 6.50 for the same thing isn't really too much of a problem. We usually take our own wine onboard for dinner and that works out pretty well. It seems the cruise lines, like any resort, marks up their wine about double the price of what you would pay in a liquor store. Joan

If ya think the drinks on X are to expensive than maybe you should consider a diff cruise line. The drinks are dirt cheap considering the quality of service. Try buying a drink in any quality hotel in San Fran., now we're talking expensive.

Before any blast me, I know the cruise line doesn't like you to but we have done quite a few cruises on several different lines and we still ALWAYS take a bottle for in room consumption on board and have never had it "confiscated". What is outrageous is what they want for a bottle of water!!! we buy in any port and take it on board. I really don't care what it says on the label as long as it's sterilized water!!!

I normally don't drink bottled water. With many brands it's reported that it's just tap water anyway or the chlorene is filtered out. I do drink the ship's water and know that the CDC has inspected (on a regular basis) the systems and analyzed the water. I may drink bottled water in some ports though.
