Default Danube Water Levels Now???

We're due to cruise the Danube on april 28 and, having read of water level problems on these boards in the past, searched the Internet to see how the Danube is right now. I came across these two articles which focus on the lower Danube and am wondering if its affecting areas between Nuremburg and Budapest. I'm hoping for comments from people who are there or have cruised recently to put my concerns at rest. Anyone? I'm hoping since I haven't seen anything discussed here, its not affecting the central areas. Thanks for your input!

That's very worrisome... I'm booked on a lower Danube cruise at the end of May, and I wonder how or if it will be affected...

scottam,

Both articles are about the lower Danube river below Budapest.

But anyway low water is a problem in Germany too - around Straubing as there are no locks and dams there.

Currently the levels are pretty good. There´s no fear of low water right now.

You seem to have some expertise in this area.

Thinking of taking a 2014 Danube cruise in late August or early September.

What can we expect re: water level issues?

Thank you.

Sorry, but unless you have a reliable long term weather forecast no one can tell you the river levels.

I can tell you that August tends to lower levels. But we also had pretty severe floodings in August several times.

That´s part of river cruising.

Hi steamboats -

I read both articles, but they seem to be talking about water levels in the past. One is tagged as 2011 - and the other is making references to crop production in 2012.

We leave on Thursday for Bucharest... Have you heard of any issues currently?

Fran

Check the following thread. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1617280. There are several web sources cited that seem to be useful.

Fran,

No, I haven´t heard of any problems. The levels in Germany are tending more to the high side. So there´s no fear of low levels on the lower part of the Danube river.

Fran,
Thanks for pointing this out. After looking at the article again, I see the past date at the start of the article. At the top of the page, near the masthead is a current date, and that's what I was looking at when I posted yesterday. I didn't the other date. My bad! Thanks for the replies everyone and sorry for the scare!

Happy cruising!
Tammy
