Default direction to port from rotterdam train station

I am travelling to the Port of Rotterdam by train from Amsterdam. Once I get off the train in Rotterdam, how do I get to the port by public transport. Also, roughly how much is a taxi ride from the train station to the port?

Thanks

By public transport you can either take a tram or the metro. Both very frequently. Metro is quicker, tram you will see more. But both not very convenient if you have much luggage.

It will bring you to the southern side of Erasmusbrug, from where you will see the ship lying at the cruise terminal. From there it will be abt. 5 minutes walk.

I am not familiar with taxi-rates in Rotterdam, but guess (really a guess!) about Eur. 20.-

Ine -
I appreicate your posts so much. We will be arriving at the Rotterdam trainstation from the Amsterdam airport and staying at the Westin hotel pre-cruise. From the Westin's information it sounded as though the hotel was right across from the train station. Do you know if this is true? And if not, do you know how far the hotel is from the station?
Thanks so much -
cindy

Yes it is directly across the station. You will see the tall building in front of you when you leave the station, just cross the square. But please...pay attention to the trams when doing so. It will not take more then 2 minutes.

If you have time, make a Spido harborboattrip, leaving near Erasmusbrug (across the cruise terminal), nice way to see the harbor and all the ships.
Or near the cruise terminal have a coffee at Hotel New York, which used to be the former HAL headoffice. Can be reached by publictransport or watercab.

Enjoy your stay and cruise.

Ine,

We will be in Rotterdam July 30-August 2 prior to a Maasdam cruise. Do you know any web sites that list day tours that originate in Rotterdam? I have searched the web with little success. What would you suggest for the day we plan to tour outside of Rotterdam? Thanks.

Thanks for your help! We want to spend a day in Delft so we thought it would be convenient to stay where we could just walk across the street and take the train. I think we will also try to take the harborboat trip as that sounds like an excellent suggestion.

This is the link fo the Rotterdam Tourist bureau, which gives a lot of info already.: http://www.vvv.rotterdam.nl/uk/
At the leftside - attractions - some boattrips are mentioned. Be it a Spido harbourtour, or the Rebus Boatexcursions. I think those are more or less organised tours. You can also visit the Boymans van Beuningen Museum etc., have a look at that site anyway.
Rotterdam is a rather modern city, as the heart of the town was bombed during WWII. As mentioned a nice place is Hotel New York, the ex HAL head office.

Another option is indeed take the train (very frequently) to the nice old city of Delft. Go to http://www.royaldelft.com/index.cfm? and see how Delft blue is made. On Marktplein there is a big old church, where the dutch royals are buried. You will love the canals and the old houses.

Let me know if you need more help or info.

I just rnow ealise the days you mentioned you are in Rotterdam..

Be aware on July 30th there is a real big street-parade-event in Rotterdam - Summercanival .............

http://www.vvv.rotterdam.nl/Aanbiedi...ercarnaval.asp
Lots of people, streets can be very crowded.

I donot know what hotel you will be in, but that day you better (try) to take cab, public transport will be awful. And be aware of your belongings if you are in the crowd.

Thanks again. We will be staying at the Hotel New York. We'll plan to get a cab from the station and perhaps remain at the hotel for the afternoon.

Ine, thanks a bunch for all the great info and websites! We'll be staying in Rotterdam (Feyenoord's town) from 03-07 AUG just prior to the Rotterdam's Baltic cruise. Looking forward to spending some time in my "old" country! (geboren in Amsterdam maar woon hier sinds 1975)

Take care and be safe!

John

Well John, sorry to say this year PSV of Eindhoven was the soccer champion.....no Feyenoord or Ajax.

Veel plezier. Als ik ergens mee kan helpen, laat maar weten.

Is OK, Ine (als Oranje het maar goed doet voor de WK volgend jaar)

Do you happen to know if the Mariniers museum is near the port?

By the way you can see some pictures of the Rotterdam cruise terminal at this link: http://community.webshots.com/album/349919581OmSsCQ

We took them a few weeks ago when Star Princess was in Rotterdam and we (lucky us!) had lunch on board.

Hi everyone, just happened to read your thread. We have stayed in Rotterdam of few times, taking the train from Amsterdam. Approx 45 mins. The train actually goes through Delft, so it's not far to go back to, maybe 20 mins.
We stayed at the Westin both times, and walked there from the station. It is right across the street, but there are lots of trams so just look before you step out. Last time we were there the Queen Mary 2 was in port on her maiden voyage, so we walked down to the port to see her sail. Its not far, but with luggage you need a cab. The Queen Mary 2 was a wonderful sight, and there must have been about 10.000 people there to see her.She was given a great send off. The sight of the the fire tenders and their water hoses and horns going off was fantastic. We hope to sail on her some day.

Ine gave you some great advise, and take the water taxi to see the best of Rotterdam.
Have a great trip.

John, The white bridge in the pictures is indeed the Erasmusbridge (nickname the swan), this bridge connects the island of the cruise terminal with the city. Trams go over it, there is also a metro connection into town.
The mariniersmuseum can be found here:http://www.marine.nl/historie/mariniersmuseum/ It is rather close to the terminal, either take a tram, but you can also walk to it.

Obriendan: In picture 102 you can see the small building in front the big ones, that it Hotel New York.

Mcca2, we were 2 of the people seeing QM in Rotterdam last year.Nice day with lots of people around.

Vriendelijk bedankt Ine! One last question, the Rotterdam Hilton is on Weena Street also. Is it close to the Centraal Station and the Westin?
