Did anybody give or receive a cruise for Christmas (giving yourself one counts!)? If so, tell us about it.

What a clever way to surprise your wife with a cruise.

We surprised our 10 and 11 year old children with a cruise on the breakaway for spring break. They were super excited. We wrapped up clues in 6 envelopes to guess the cruise. We are all excited - especially since it has been quite cold in the Chicago area these past few weeks.

Hi all,
This is my first post here.. I figured I would just jump on in. My (amazing) mother-in-law gave me and my husband a cruise for Christmas this year! We are leaving Sunday on the Sapphire Princess. This will be our second cruise, on the same ship. My husband and I celebrated our 6th anniversary on a 7 night Cruise in 2011, and we were hooked. Unfortunately our bank account doesn't agree with our desires, we are both full time students for at least the next two years. Luckily we got the deal where our fare is put towards another cruise this year, so I guess technically we were gifted two cruises!

I love this thread.
A while back I posted about giving a cruise to my dh and it turned into a big flame war and everyone told me it was a stupid idea. The thread was locked or deleted eventually.

So I gave my dh a gift of a cruise for Christmas and he is thrilled
He sort of knew about it ahead of time because the dumb cruise website had a glitch and sent a confirmation to our joint e mail and not mine. But he didn't read all the details and was still very surprised and very happy on Christmas morning.
I wrapped up a little "countdown clock" with our sailing date programmed in.

Included was also a card with photos of some of our previous cruises and ideas for the upcoming one. He started researching ports and stuff within an hour.

I'm saving the big surprises for once we're onboard. I also got us one of the largest suites on the ship and rented a cabana at the private island stop.

We gave our 2 adult children and their spouses the gift of a family cruise in 2007 for 2008 on the Grand Princess. Of course we were also going along. I told DH we should have done it 10 years previously before they had "significant others". LOL.

It was a first cruise for all of them and I have to say they were very impressed.

Where can I find that "ship" basket? I so want one. Never had a "cruise gift". Must be nice to have that kind of money spend on one.

I booked my family on the Carnival Breeze for March 2014 back in June 2013 and had to keep the secret all this time as this was a Christmas present for my two sons their wives and my six grandchildren. I bought them each a piece of luggage and had cards printed up at Café Press with a picture of a cruise ship and all the information about our sailing. It will be the kids spring break. I put the cards inside the luggage in sealed envelopes. I had them wait till they opened all their other gifts then had them all open the envelopes together and told my oldest granddaughter (19) to read aloud for the younger ones. It was one precious moment seeing the surprise and excitement on each of their faces and oh the hugs and kisses I got were divine. Now I can share the excitement with all. I was busting holding it in all those months.

I gave myself and my Mother in law a 5 day cruise for Christmas. We are departing from Sydney and going down to Melbourne on a round trip.
As we live out in the country 5 hours away from Sydney this will give us the opportunity to see the Christmas lights and decorations of Sydney and Melbourne and fit in some Christmas shopping as well.
On the news last night they showed the lovely light displays spilling down over the old buildings. We don't get to see that in a small country town.

Our first cruise is actually a Birthday/Christmas present from my parents. Also helps us celebrate our anniversary!
