fiestamom Posted April 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2004 We woke up on day 2 to a cloudy, overcast day. It was nice to be able to check the weather each day from our window, but I am already planning for the next cruise and have decided that next time we will have a balcony! We got ready and headed to the Windjammer for breakfast. We all enjoyed the variety that was offered (french toast, bagels, fruit, sausage, juice,etc...) and found the food to be excellent. DD wanted to try climbing the rock wall this morning, so we headed there for her to give it a try. To climb, you must have socks and they provide you with climbing shoes and headgear. You fill out a liability waiver before you climb and this must be signed by a parent. We waited for a few minutes while a few climbers finished and then it was her turn. Daughter is much braver than I am...it seemed really high! She made it to the top and rang the bell. The staff is great about helping the kids out with tips and encouragement and a few well timed tugs on the rope to get them to the top! It had warmed up some by this time, so we decided to relent and let her swim while we caught some rays and enjoyed the calypso music poolside. Todays drink of the day was a Rum Punch for 4.25. There was moderate chair hogging going on, but after circling the pool a few times we were able to find some open lounge chairs. No stress....we are on vacation! We watched and laughed at the silly pool games and thought the CD did a good job engaging the crowd. We noticed that the crowd aboard this ship was a little older and a little more subdued (but still having a blast!) than the crowd that had been on our one previous cruise 10 years ago on Carnival. We like to have a good time, but the previous cruise would not have been appropriate for our daughter. To be truthful, it would no longer be appropriate for us either...lots of laughs, we are getting too old to party that hard! We grabbed some lunch in the Windjammer, did a little shopping, took a little nap, and got prepared for Formal night. Hubby opted for a dark suit rather than a tux and was glad he had done so. Very few men that we saw at early seating wore a tux. Service and food were wonderful. We explained to our waiter that my daughter and I would be having to leave for the next 4 evenings before dessert was served. She had to have her hair and make-up done and her costume on and be at the Viking Crown Lounge by 7:30, with there performance starting at 8:00. The other dancers in our party needed to do the same. In other words, we really couldn't eat at a very leisurely pace and this was no problem at all. Service was quick, but not rushed. This had been a concern as we had a schedule that we had to keep, but it went very smoothly! Each evening, at our waiters suggestion, we chose what we wanted for dessert and our waiter plated it and sent it with my husband for my daughter and I to enjoy later in our room! He always sent extra's and knew after the 1st day that my daughter especially enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies. Extra work for him, but an appreciated treat for us! The dancers performed their 40 minute"Fiesta" show for a large crowd in the Viking Crown and then we rushed to get my daughter changed so she could see the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers perform "Rhythm Nation" in the Masquerade Theatre. The Masquerade Theatre offers great views from most seats, but get there a little early if you can! Most nights we just made it and seating was scarce. The show was great and I think watching it inspired our dancers to perform their own show even better! After the show, my daughter went off to the arcade with some of her teammates and mom and dad headed to our favorite place....the casino! I was able to play for about an hour on a draw poker machine for 20.00, going up and down in credits on a quarter machine playing 5 credits. Hubby hit 4 aces on his machine for 1000 credits and cashed out for $250.00. Our kind of fun!!!! We rounded up our daughter and headed back to get some sleep for our Cabo San Lucas adventure in the morning. The cabin was nicely cleaned and DD loved her towel animal. Of course we had to eat our dessert before bed, lots of laughs! Yummy! We were quick to fall asleep. It had been another great day! Next Up...Cabo Day 3. Thanks for reading! dougp26364 Posted April 22, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Good report. Sounds like you had a enjoyable and relaxing day at sea. We first had a outside cabin, then went to a balcony on our second trip. Be forwarned that you may never want to go back to an outside cabin again after enjoying the balcony cabin. As a dance kid's mom, I was just wondering if you have any hints on when to arrive, where to sit etc. for a good view of their shows, or anything else interesting (rehearsals, timing, etc.) Thanks,
