Triplet and One Posted July 29, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2005 Has anyone brought their own wine on board? I was under the impression that you could bring your own and pay a $10 corking fee in the dining room/restaurant. My ticket book clearly states that you may not bring any of your own on board. My TA contacted a Royal Caribbean representative and was told that we could bring 2 bottles per stateroom as long as it is not something that they sell or have available on the ship. Please help...we're leaving on Sunday (Enchantment). Thanks so much
lrovnan Posted July 29, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2005 I sent a e-mail a few months back about bringing alcohol on board. And they said no alcohol or soft drinks. And gave me the same reply to wine. Up to 2 bottles as long as RCCL does not offer it plus a corkage fee. If you search the threads you will see that this is a popular topic. Majority of the people take a few bottles of choice wrap it in bubble wrap and place it in their carry on or luggage. I don't beleive I've ever seen anyone complain that they confiscated their alcohol . Unless you physically carry it in plain site. So my advice is take what you want whether it's 1 , 2 or 4 bottles. Wrap it up , stick it in your luggage and enjoy your self. The worse that could happen is they take it and return it to you at the end of the cruise. Also just a tip. When you arrive in your state room ask the room attendent for wine glasses . That way you can enjoy a bottle in your room especially if you have a balcony. Hope this helps

Wrap it up good because if they drop your suitcase and the bottle breaks, you have a very big mess inside your suitcase. I'm sure your clothes are worth more than a $35 bottle of wine. Bubble wrap it and wrap a tshirt or 2 around it also.
ssoceo Posted July 29, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2005 Depends on port you are leaving from. In San Juan the liquor store is right there in the same bldg when you get out of line from getting your pass to board so we bought 2 bottles (1 bacardi and 1 J&B for about $15 for both - put it in my carryon and off we went. Friends of ours on the same cruise brought some great wine from home and paid the corkage fee in the dining room (like $10 for a magnum of wine) and the whole table shared it - alot less expensive than wine on the ship but then again I wouldn't risk it getting broken in my suitcase. While in St. Marteen another couple that we met boarded with the large bottles of water - they bought rum for in their room and the store clerk suggested this - he had bottled water - dumped out the water and filled it with the clear rum! People are always getting on and off the ship with bottled water in the warm climits! Its nice having a cocktail in your room while getting ready for dinner and two drinks on the ship cost what an entire bottle costs of most libations. Then I don't have to worry so much when we get our cabin charges at the end and we get on to 2 & 3 pages of charges for a drink here and a drink there - boy does it add up fast especially with the gratuity automatically added to all drink charges. Good luck.
keeper236 Posted July 29, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2005 I always "smuggle" booze. Never have I had it taken from my luggage. I just wrap it in bubble wrap then inside those huge zip locks and pack it between my clothes. Never broke. My tab at the end of the week, minimal. beachguy Posted July 30, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2005 (beachchick here) So true Stretch. A search on this forum, under advanced search for "bring alcohol onboard" would get more hits then anyone could wade through. However, I'll be happy to add my usual response. Regarding soda/water: We've never seen anywhere, not on our docs and not online and not in the brochures, that you can't bring on soft drinks and water. RCI CS might tell you that you can't, but that's really not accurate. I've asked many times and never been told no. Not by the ship staff nor the C&A reps. Regarding hard liquor: Frankly, the selection and prices in the ship stores are excellent. If you purchase it to take back to your cabin and pay the $9 consumption fee, the price is still equivalent (if not a bit better) than regular liquor stores. Plus you don't have the hassle of carrying it onboard or having them "hold" it for you until the cruise is over. Regarding wine: We have always brought a few bottles with us. The selection onboard stinks, IMO, and is extraordinarily overpriced. Plus, they don't carry most of the wines we prefer. (Not to mention that we have friends who are vintners so we often have a gift to take with us.) The website still includes the disclaimer that the "no alcohol" policy doesn't apply to every ship or every itinerary. Unless they say "no how, no way, never under any circumstances," there is still some question. I have called C&A and CS and asked about bringing a few bottles for our cabin and to bring to dinner. I've never been told no, just to be reasonable. In addition to that, they still have the $12 corkage fee in the dining room if you bring your own wine. I want to know where you are getting "your own wine" if you aren't bringing it with you? So there's more confusion added to the issue. In any case, we have never "smuggled" on our wine. The most we've ever brought was 6 bottles for 2 cabins (all adults). We pack it in airline-approved shipping boxes and check it through (both on the plane and at the pier). It is clearly labeled with the contents. Every time it's been delivered to our cabin with the rest of our luggage. We've taken it to the dining room and happily pay the corkage fee (when charged). Because we are often bringing wines from boutique vintners, we've had staff ask us about it. Once I gave one of the head waiters a small glass to taste. He appreciated it and we had a nice chat. So there's my opinion and experience. (And yes Stretch, I know you don't agree with me.;)) beachchick
nascarfans_wny Posted August 1, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 1, 2005 We have "smuggled" vodka on board in Poland Spring water bottles, and Knob Creek in a Listerine bottle, with no problems. Here's my big question -- how likely is it that we could get 12-24 cans or bottles of Coors Light through to our cabin in our checked luggage. Kathy's mom loves CL, and it would be a real treat for her if we could provide her with at least 2 beers a day for our cruise :D
