Urgent Grand Circle voltage question

I forgot my converter for my hair appliance- just have an adapter. Though they are a U.S. company , I think the European river ships use European voltage?

Does anyone know if the ship can loan me one or should I try to buy one in

Basel?

It's a good thing I didn't bring my converter. I was told it wouldn't have worked and possibly might've caused a fire or damaged my equipment! That the voltage on the ship is different than on land. So they gave me this big black box converter to use that was about 5 pounds. However, it didn't work either. My hairdryer went on for a second and then went off - I hope it's not ruined. ( I had to bring my own blow dryer along because the diffuser attachment fits on that one)
