Triumph NYC to Canada 7-30 thru Aug 4
Just off the Triumph this morning. Did not find very much good with this ship. 3 out of 4 hot tubs on Lido deck out of service. Ice cream machine on Lido deck out of service. The carpeting in all of the public areas of this ship was dirty and smelled. When compared to Princess or other lines, the ship shows neglect and it is only 6 years old.
Some of the slots in the casino took your money but did not give you a spin. I was told Casino staff was too busy to check the machines and they actually couldn't care less. If you like Bingo - this cruise is for you. The aft hot tub which is marked "Adults Only" had 18 unsupervised, unruly children in it at one time. Not much sense in marking the tubs as "Adult Only" if no one is there to supervise and keep the kids out of them. Saw numerous children in the casino playing slot machines, and quarter flippers. No supervision from the casino staff or parents. I thought the production shows in the Rome Lounge were good. Probably a good ship for families. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, forget about it. I'm not looking for you to agree or disagree with me. I'm sure some, if not most of you had a great time.

Triumph
Hello Peter.
Chestnut Ridge NY I see. I'm retired from Spring Valley PD. The cruise north was like glass - but fog so thick you could not see the water from any deck. St John New Brunswick - 58 degrees and rained all day. Halifax - beautiful day - all day. Sailing home 13' seas out of Halifax for about 12 hours and then smooth as glass. The food would be fair at best - don't like to complain much about food because I know there are people who go hungry every day.

Maybe it is a good thing Triumph is going into drydock in late September or early October. We're sailing on Triumph November 19 so hopefully the problems will be fixed.

Triumph
Captain told us it's going into drydock for 2 weeks in October but mostly for mechanical items - props, and propulsion system updates. I spoke to our waiter and he also said for mechanics only. I would hope they do something in the public areas.

This is all sad to hear as this is the only ship I ever got to set foot on BEFORE any cruises started, back when it came to NY in 1999. I then sailed her 2 months later. Everything was SPOTLESS.

Looking for problems
I wasn't looking for probalems either but when the problems just about slap you in the face, you don't have any choice but to acknowledge them.
Having 3 of 4 hot tubs out of service is what I would call a problem. Carnival IN MY OPINION is the low of the low.

Lovely.
 I'm glad that I am an eternal optimist when sailing. I primarily go for overall experience, itinerary, but do love the ship. We shall see. I plan to do a comprehensive photologue of the Carnival Triumph on my web site as I've done with all others. I guess I will have to use some creative camera angling on this one!
