i am flying on freedom of seas. is the ship air conditioned? just trying to figure out outfits and i usually need a sweater if the air is on!

hope you meant sailing on freedom...that'd be an awesome sight to see if it was flying ;)

yes, the ship's are air conditioned, some better than others. definitely bring a light sweater. I don't normally get cold easily but it started to get to me in the casino.

You do have the ability to control the temp in your cabin though.

I find the main dining room is usually chilly. The night air can also be cool when it is windy, even in the summer. They show movies on deck on some nights!

Yes, modern cruise ships are air conditioned. The reason venues like dining rooms and theatres are a bit cool is that they are deliberately set to be cool anticipating that when full with people the temp will rise. You also have the matter of what is cool to one person is often warm to another.

Don't miss the Ice Show...and be sure to carry a sweater to wear to it. I also get chilly in the dining room and out on the deck at night (even in summer). I actually carry a couple of light sweaters and a couple of wraps.

And some of us, of a certain age, have fluctuating internal temperature controls ;)

Of course. Can you imagine an non-air conditioned ship in a warm climate.\ especially considering all the heat sources inside the ship.

DON

Take a look at any photo of a cruise ship. That large housing around the stack is the air conditioning.

Uh, no. The air conditioning compressors are in the engine room down below. They chill water which is circulated around the ship. Most of the air handler rooms where the chilled water cools the air, and the fans, are in the center of the ship, in those "white areas" on the deck plan between the port and starboard inside cabins.

The "stack" structure is generally empty, except for some things like the fire dampers for the ventilation fans.
