Panama Canal On the Legend April 14th-29th 2015 PHOTO REPORT

Recommended Posts

Well colour me blue and call me a cruiser!

I'm back.

With a thread about a cruise I took with my husband and our friends.

From left to right: Friend, friend, husband, friend, me.

Also known as Ann, Thommo, Lowry, Anouk, Sinny. ATLAS.

I know, pompous name for a humble group.

Did I say humble? I meant the opposite. ;)

As a group we have cruised once before and you can read all about it here.

We cruised from San Diego through Panama Canal and ended up in Fort Lauderdale and had the blastest time.

If you'd like to know more, stay with me and I'll tell you everything.

If not, then do not read on.

I mean it.

Go click another thread.

But here we go.

We spent a few days in Vegas and San Francisco before the cruise.

Those days are very well described in the following photos.

Absolutely boring. Yawning now just looking at these photos.

Embarkation day!!

Hooray!

Noro Noro go away.

Yes. We received an email from RCCL that the Legend had had a severe case of Noro on the previous cruise so it would be thoroughly sanitized before we could get on.

So off we went and dropped our bags...we had a few...

dDw5x1eKmPIRtXNPMx6Wsd9Lbrv9B7lexBod-EfN_d3q=w805-h453-no

...and went to the bigger ship instead.

The USS Midway.

We spent almost 3 hours here and saw maybe a tenth of the whole thing and I swear we walked about 58 miles. At least. It's huge.

Around 2.30 we went back to the terminal and we've never seen lines this long.

UvIVJ2oWNuV7KD-2zYl-_dUdVreVhy_AASa2HFAi23oG=w1022-h576-no

Took us 45 minutes to reach check-in.

Our rep was completely confused the whole time and asked for help every 2 minutes. I'm not kidding. Our 3 friends were checked in faster than us 2.

Ah well. You can of course WOW people in many ways...;)

I'll squeeze in a little something different here.

If you can see my signature, you'll notice we had an affair behind Royal's back with HAL.

It lasted only two cruises, though.

And it had nothing to do with Royal.

We had a friend who worked as 3rd officer on HAL for three shifts and he invited us to come sail with him.

First 30 days on the Statendam to Hawaii and French Polynesia...

...and the 15 days on the Volendam in Thailand and Vietnam.

Our friend has left HAL now and we have no plans to go back. Luckily for us, Royal is very forgiving and let us come back and continue as if nothing had happened.

Both itineraries were amazing and we are very happy we took those cruises.

Especially since we now know we prefer Royal very strongly over HAL.

Looking forward to this review! What a precruise adventure ... I'm jealous!!

Thank you for posting. We traveled the Canal on Legend in 2013 and I look forward to reliving that through your report. :)

I know you people!!

I've read your reviews too :):)

Nice to see you both here :D

About time for another report! They are awesome.

Looks like you had a great time.... would love to do the Canal one day.

How different was HAL from Royal?

Thanks

Joe :)

It's been a since the last Snippu cruise review. I wondered where you were and how you guys are. After seeing the pics of Hawaii and French Poly, I'd say you are great!! :D

Voi poika , en voi odottaa lukea tätä.

I sure hope I said that right.

So differences between HAL and Royal?

Numerous.

Entertainment on HAL?

Not very good.

You sometimes see on talent shows how someone mentions they have been a singer on a cruise ship and people laugh.

I now understand it. Those laughing probably assume that all cruise entertainment is like the one we saw on HAL. Mostly really not good.

Royal wins this round. By miles.

Activities on HAL?

They have an excellent library.

LrgVz1WZT0oQW9w111rwde-I1BWbLTCI2vm1dlHMOkj3=w800-h600-no

Excellent.

Food on H...oh you wanted to know about other activities on HAL?

Well they have an excellent library.

Which is handy since there wasn't very much to do otherwise.

Royal wins again.

Food on HAL?

The same as on Royal. We find it good and edible everywhere. All around. Prefer the Windjammer over the Lido, but overall both fare very well.

Except that HAL serves 8 different juices at breakfast.

Apple, orange, cranberry, pineapple, grape, tomato, V8 and prune.

8!

Juices go to HAL.

Lifts on HAL?

Waited for a lift once almost for 30 seconds.

Every other wait was 15 seconds or less.

Probably no need to explain this one further.

HAL wins.

Staff on HAL?

Wonderful people. Mostly from Indonesia and the Philippines.

First answer at Front Desk to almost anything was "No".

Second answer or even third was a "well maybe but this is not our policy...".

Not very encouraging :(

On Royal the first answer has always been either a "yes" or "I'll find out".

Royal wins.

Passengers on HAL?

We hadn't even made it to the ship on our first cruise when we had already answered twice "Yes, we are on the right ship, no we aren't crew". And we heard this a lot.

Even the Vietnamese immigrant officers assumed we were crew and tried to get us to fill in the crew forms...

HAL does indeed attract older clients but we found it just fine.

Although on Royal we've never been poked and prodded the way we were on HAL...many of the older passengers never asked out straight but they did often say things like: "Well I never had the money or the time to cruise when I was your age..." and then stare at us very curiously.

We never answered them :p

Hard to say who wins here. We do prefer seniors over juniors but on the other hand children don't stare at us and ask how on Earth did we learn to speak English if it's not our mother tongue.

So this win is Royalish.

Prices on HAL.

Drinks were a lot cheaper, but shore excursions and photos were almost double the price than on Royal.

Royal wins.

So I'd say HAL wins in two things: Lifts come faster and the choice of breakfast juices.

We are and were great!

The differences were quite big... I didn't even write a report from HAL since they seem to have NONE on their boards

Hey A&L,

your Finnish is indeed correct :)

Although we'd say it in another way but I understood you perfectly :)

and appreciate your effort.

After quite a wait we were able to board the ship.

We'd been planning this cruise since August 2013 and finally the wait was over.

Here is our itinerary:

lg-panama-canal.jpg

We had made some plans but hadn't booked anything in the ports. We had all been working very hard up until the cruise (especially Anouk who flew in from Sao Paulo and Ann who had been in Los Angeles and Kansas City before Vegas) and were very much in need of a holiday.

We just wanted to take it easy and forget all about work.

HlmgmVLzovEGBE_Yguet5e4D15i2MLgpLqwswPrNUkp2=w1024-h576-no

Right.

We had only about a half an hour before the Muster Drill when we got into our cabins so it was straight out onto the deck.

QHxn-Qgc_Ahm1utYhlcKfeo9kRJTBLIrr4KpDYKeVq50=w1023-h682-no

Who are these people?? Have no idea...

And after we were deemed safe, we abused that trust.

Taking a short break now, have to work

I want to be friends with this group of people. They look like so much FUN!

I'll let you know when we are planning our next cruise.

Come and find out if we really are fun or just really professional in making it look like we are ;)

So sorry about the delay, everyone.

Have my photos in Google Drive and just now found out that Internet Explorer does not work when trying to post photos from Google.

And as I am at work, I cannot upload Google Chrome on the computer.

I'll be back with the report once I'm back home.

Grrrrrrrr.
