On-Board Alcohol is Cheap! Why Do People Smuggle?

I don't really drink, but I'm just curious. When I did my first cruise last month, the alcohol in the gift shops seemed cheap as all get-out -- certainly cheaper than the alcohol I've bought as gifts on land. Why do people bother with the whole smuggling bit?

When you buy the alcohol on board or in port, the cruiseline holds it till the last night of the cruise........ so you can buy the drinks from the bar

That, and it's a pain in the arse to go up or down to the bar to grab a drink when you're getting ready for dinner, or in my case this last adventure, getting out of bed in the AM:eek:

OMG that's too funny. I had to have a couple "hair of the dog" last time around too.

Try this math on for size:

You can buy 2 liters of Crown Royal in the gift shop for 36 bucks.

A double Crown and Coke at the bar was 11.39.

I will definitely smuggle my own on board next time. :D

Maybe you should stop being a barbarian and ruining premium canadian whiskey by putting coke in it. :p

Because I'm a big lush and my tab from buying liquor by the drink at the bar would exceed a small nation's gross national product?

Because I'm cheap?

Because service by the pool isn't fast enough?

So I can loudly proclaim in the (pick your favorite location: casino, dining room, poolside, restaurant, hair salon) ___________ that I made my drink with liquor from my room and free dispenser punch?

"Ah, hello stateroom service, yes, we would like a 2 bagels, cream cheese, 2 bananas, 6 glasses of OJ, and 6 glasses of tomato juice. Yes, 6 glasses of each, that's right. Let's try for between 5:30 and 6 AM tomorrow, ok?":D

If its any consolation, i Do order it with "light" Coke. :)

Also, everybody knows the only good things to ever come out of Canada are Crown Royal and The Kids in the Hall. Ok, maybe just Crown Royal. :D

Speaking of drinking, are you cocktailed up right now Liv?? You're response to Hootie was, well, ah, kind of "weeny-ish". I thought you'd loose the cannons on her:p

Nope ;)
