Bringing Wine on the Star Princess

Been told that you can bring wine aboard the ship when you embark. Also true of bottled water. Getting lots of conflicting stories here. Can anyone set it straight? Appreciate knowing.

We sailed from San Francisco last year on the Regal Princess with my sister and her husband. Because we were leaving from our home port, taking an 18 day cruise and then spending 4 days in New York with our relatives.....we took 5 CASES of wine with us. We just packed them in shipping boxes available at wineries or most liquor stores and sent them off with our luggage at the pier.

We were charged a $10 bottle corkage fee EVERY night. We were fine with this because we at least were able to drink the wine we wanted with dinner. We also had champagne to enjoy in our rooms and on our balconies. There was no problem taking the wine off the ship either.

Hope this helps, Denise

By alcohol, sun princess is referring to hard liquor, like vodka, scotch, etc. If you want those for pre-dinner cocktails on your balcony, you can pre-order through the princess website, or through room service. The price is not significantly higher than package store prices (of course if you can get it at a good discount, or want a particular brand Princess may not stock, you will have to smuggle it aboard--pack securely in your checked luggage, as carryon is subject to hand search) but wine can be brought aboard either as checked or carry on. Princess rules say "a reasonable amount" but no definition of how much that is.
