Isla of Ixtapa

Could anyone let me know if you can hire a small boat yourself at the pier in Ixtapa or from Playa Linda which will take me to Isla of Ixtapa? If so, what is the cost? I will be in Ixtapa on Dec. 28. The ship does an excursion there (pricey). I thought I might be able to do it for less on my own. Thank you.
