Default Internet in Cabin on CB?

Hi Everyone,

One of the people cruising the Caribbean Princess with us this weekend has decided he is very busy and important. He would like to know if he can pay for in-cabin internet if he brings a laptop or tablet thingy. Is that available on the CB? Or is it just the pay-per-use wireless or the internet cafe?

If it is available, does anyone know the price structure and which equipment is necessary.

Thanks!

We were on the ship when it first sailed a couple of years ago and Internet was only available in the atrium and Internet Cafe. Nothing in cabins. Had to buy time in 30 minute blocks for 35 cents/min as well. Kind of surprising a ship that is only two years old isn't fully wired. Took the laptop just to store photos.

Nope, sorry, no in-cabin internet access on Princess.

Default Internet

No internet other than what is offered in the Internet Cafe and the wireless area. Making the whole ship wireless isn't practical. Making the ship with a port in each cabin could happen in the future. It has already happened on QM2 and RCCL ships.

If he uses the Internet Cafe he will be very frustrated most of the time. At least on our sailing the service was soooooooo slow that it made dial-up look like high speed. I did see people sitting in the atrium with their laptops but they said it wasn't any faster than the Internet Cafe. When we got to St. Thomas and St. Martin some people headed to the town internet cafes because they were cheaper and faster. FYI- CB price is 35 cents a minute no packages. You can get a credit on your account if it takes forever to connect and the meter is running. It took me one time 7 minutes to get onto Comcast's website and another 5 to get onto my email before I was even able to view my email. I did get a credit as did everyone else who attempted to use the internet that night because of the slowness.

Become a platinum member and you never have to worry about Internet fees on board again. Or find a platinum buddy on board. The best time to surf, at least on the Sea Princess, is very early in the morning at the coffee and pastry bar down on deck five in the Atrium. Fresh brewed real coffee and quiet location as you Internet surf right next to a porthole view of the ocean.

Bingo!

Our Platinum cards and pins were delivered to our stateroom on the second formal night of our 1/28 CB voyage. We're already looking forward to free internet access on the Dawn next year.

This kind of defeats the perk that Platinum members earn.

You are totally correct. And Princess giving first time cruisers free Internet because they are rich and have a suite kind of defeats the perk that Platinum members have to earn the hard way too.

If I were the Princess boss I would award cruise privileges based on Princess days at sea, not number of cruises. Say Platinum for 50 Princess days at sea and Elite for 100 Princess days at sea.

Note that the Platinum Internet access does NOT include the wireless capability on the ship.

I couldn't agree more! I've got well over 100 Princess days but am only about 2/3 of the way to Elite. I'll probably be over 175 Princess days by the time I make it. Oh well... I've got two more booked this year (so far) which means that maybe, just maybe, I'll be Elite in the next year or two.

Well I sure didn't know that and perhaps this is all the more reason to leave the laptop at home.

I'm shooting for elite as well but you know it sure gets expensive to reach the Elite level. I guess if you want economy (drycleaning) you've got to pay for it.
