Guess what happened to our alcohol :(

Recommended Posts

icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif I helped my brother pack 3 bottles of alcohol in a small rolling bag. We were very careful and bubble wrapped it securly. You couldn't even tell what it was except that it must be fragile because of the amount of wrap we used. Well we tipped the porter very well (I thought) $25.00 for 10 bags and asked him to be careful........Well when my brother in law got his luggage later that day one of the bottles was missing. All of the cans of beer made it no problem but someone had helped themselves to a bottle of his stash. icon_eek.gif

Has this ever happened to anyone else. By the way it was in Galveston on the Elation.

BottleTrace provides professional bottle Search services at an affordable price with a reputation for unsurpassed results. My worldwide network allows me to find virtually any bottle, anywhere.

While there are many qualified search companies, most offer very basic searches. Normally the results provided consist of nothing but a long list of nmissing bottles. With the Internet, many people can conduct searches like these on their own with no fees. However, most searches are more difficult and require the expertise of a search specialist to determine what type of search is needed. My goal is to provide you with a verified address and phone number. To do this I rely on the millions of public records I have available but also the skills of a qualified specialist to analyze the data. Let me know. icon_razz.gif

And it's not like you can complain to anyone at Carnival. What would you say? "Ezcuse me, but someone stole one of our smuggled bottles."

NO KIDDING YOU GUYS (and this can be verified with the 4/25 Destiny cruisers):

The first thing I unpacked was my booze (17 1/5's, I thought, but it was really only 5) because I had a bit of a spillage problem in SJU and wanted to make sure it was in tact. I put it away along with the treasured Yahtzee game for Aruba day with DBF.

Well, as the night wore on, and I didn't unpack anything else, I proceeded to get drunk on 'other' booze (sailaway party, lido deck, etc.).

So I get back to my room to attempt unpacking and ALL my booze was missing! OH NO!!!

I marched (staggered) straight to the purser's desk - wasted out of my mind at like 3AM - and filled out a claim form (barely legible, couldn't write my own name!), saying "I want my liquor (and yahtzee game), dammit, and it better be found NOW!". Poor Purser! icon_frown.gif

Guess what was in my cabinet in the morning???? ALL 17 bottles (really only 5) of RUM!!!!!!

SILLY ME!! icon_biggrin.gif

On the last morning, I get this note under my door saying they were sorry, but unfortunately, my 'missing' items were not found and they gave me an address to complain further. The claim form was attached... hilarious!

Luckily, I don't remember which purser had to deal with me, because I would have been pretty embarrassed on my following visits to the purser if I knew I was talking to the poor soul who had to put up with me that night.

Ignorance really IS bliss!

My view is this:

You are on vacation.

carry on a few bottles of wine which Carnival says is ok.

Dude, just buy your drinks. How much will you save by "smuggling" drinks aboard? The $100 is just not worth it. It's vacations

Save $5 buck a week and ... it drives me nuts. Maybe I'm nuts, but I just don't get it. If you want a cocktail or 2 while you are getting dressed for diner, ok .. i"m ok with that. But if you are briging booze on board so you can "beat" CARnival and not have to tip the waitresses .. well... think again. Life is too short

CTMak: You don't understand...

1. I spend PLENTY of money on board. CCL is FAR from not making enough money off me.

2. My bar bill, even WITH smuggled booze (wine with dinner, foo foos on Lido, etc.) exceeded $200. If I were to add in all the rum & diet cokes (I bought a soda card - nice & legit!), I'd be homeless.

3. I work really hard for my vacation dollar and will save as much as I can by being smart about what I bring with me.

4. The waiters are making PLENTY in tips off me! Even when I just ask for "free" diet coke all week, they walk away with $20, even when the tip is included in the soda card.

5. Even my PVP smuggles and even encourages it!

TRIGUY: You can help me consume any time you want, handsome! icon_wink.gif

You know I love trying, you handsome thing!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

BTW: Saving on booze is how I do it... others fight to the death for credits, refunds, upgrades, etc. to get the most of their vacation dollar.

Smuggling booze is just easier, less frustrating, and less time consuming than watching 50 sites a day for a $10 price drop and then calling everyone in creation to apply it to my cruise.

Heh, Linda... I'm with you (both in te fact that I spend tons on my bar bill anyway, and that I'm into rum and diet coke!). I am smuggling some on this Monday (yahoo!) and am wondering if you have any particular tips for doing so. Have you ever gotten caught? This is just my second cruise...last year our S&S accont was close to $500 for a 4-day cruise! Can't afford that this year...

Use plastic bottles and ZIPLOCK them... an ordinary bag wrapped around the bottle won't do (had spillage in SJU last week with a rubbermaid bottle i filled, but the seal was bad).

Bacardi and Castillo rums both have 1/5's in 'travel' plastic bottles, which are flatter, square-ish and easier to handle than the glass.

NO PROBLEM if it's in checked (not carry on)luggage. Use those cheap, disposable luggage locks from Kmart to discourage what happened to the OP.

BON VOYAGE and have one for me!

Thanks, Linda! I only have bought 2 small bottles of rum thus far...think I need to hit the liquor store today. Bought several vodka travelers but when it's sunny and warm there's nothing like rum!!

I got a great new rolling duffle at Costco...hard bottom, with a zippered section above it, then the soft top.... thinking the zip part will be for my stash!! Did you use bubble wrap at all? My vodkas are all plastic, but the rums are glass...couldn't find plastic either here in VT or in NH (where the booze is cheap..no tax!).

Can't wait to get outta here....it was in the 20's here last night!

Thanks for all the replies!!! I really couldn't believe that this really happenend. All of our previous cruises we have zip locked our luggage shut. This year I totally spaced it and my poor brother in law paid the price icon_biggrin.gif But like you said who could you complain to. Even with the smuggling we still had a $700.00 + sign and sail bill. Shopping is a real problem. Live and learn.

I agree about bringing booze onboard to offset the ridiculous prices. Between the cost and tip on the soda card, to the extra tips we give on other liquid refreshments they do okay. I'm surprised they haven't considered charging for all juices and other liquids that can be mixed with spirits to offset the loss due to smuggled booze..oooppps hope they didn't read that.
