Thumbs down celebrity/cruises only book problem

we booked a guaranteed cat 9 or better for the Oct 1 Panama Canal Cruise
thru cruises only, Harry Kroll. We were asssured that we would be upgraded
especialy if the ship was not full.
We called Celebrity today and our cabin was 7034 and they did not
know what a cat 9 "or better was". I asked if the ship was full and they said
definitely not but that our cabin was THE cabin. We called Cruises Only and
customer service said thats the way it is.
We promptly cancelled the cruise and will go back to Cunard and Holland
America. for our annual 6 cruises.
Celebrity and Cruises blew it. Especially when the ship was not near full.
Lose a 6 time a year cruising couple. now that makes sense.

I'm sure there is more to the story but I would be upset with your t/a....not Celebrity. Both Celebrity and RC don't give upgrades.......or at least haven't for a while that I'm aware of........I think your biggest concern should be with your t/a........

Good luck on your future cruises.

Sounds like the TA is the one to "blame" not the cruise line. Not sure any TA, internet or live, can guarantee an upgrade. That's completely beyond their control and certainly the cruise line has nothing at all to do with that. We're long time HAL cruisers and I'd be very surprised if they'd honor a "guaranteed upgrade" from a TA. I'd also be surprised if you booked directly with HAL that they'd have anything like a "guaranteed upgrade". If they do they sure don't advertise it.

I don't understand how Celebrity "blew it." There is no connection between Celebrity and "cruises only." Why do you think you were entitled to an upgrade? Perhaps "cruises only" misrepresented your chances of an upgrade. Maybe you misunderstood the situation. In any event, I don't see how Celebrity is to blame.

sorry, I am not sure what your complaint is! You booked thru a TA and he told you that you would be guarenteed an upgrade?? How can they do that. You paid for a cat 9 which is the highest inside catagory...seems like your TA was thinking you would get bumped up to an ocean view. You say you have sailed so often, it would seem to me you would know that you should always book a room that you would be happy with if no upgrade goes thru!

What makes you think you deserve anything more than what you paid for?
Celebrity did not "BLOW IT".the TA you used and YOU blew it because now you will not know what you are missing.

I have to tell you, in the year I have been posting here this is with out a doubt THE MOST ridiculous reason for a complaint I have yet to hear. Not Celebrity's loss pal. yours.

Default Not Celebrity

Sounds like your TA committed to you something they should not have..ie guaranteeing an upgrade for a 'guaranteed' type cabin booking. The cruiseline is not at fault here. You should not expected an upgrade, but of course, it would have been nice.

That's not to say, since your cruise isn't until oct 1, that Celebrity wouldn't upgrade you between now and then. It's the chance you take when booking a 'guarantee cabin' category, no matter what the cruiseline.

We've been on Holland twice and were upgraded just once with a 'guarantee cabin' a few years back.

If you want a certain cabin category, then book it upfront. You then won't be disappointed if you're not upgraded...

I don't understand either. If you book a category guarantee, you are guaranteed that grade or better. This cruise is 3 months away. How can you say the ship is or isn't full? Maybe if you stuck with your booking, you may get a higher grade later. If I booked a guarantee, I would do it in the knowledge of getting that category. Anything else extra would be a bonus. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

Default Six cruises a year?

Then surely you've learned a thing or two. Like 90 days out is too early to find out if you are going to be upgraded. Like final payments haven't been made yet to 'shake out' the on hold cabins. Like the ta's haven't released the cabins they are holding and haven't sold. Like always book a cabin you can be happy with if the upgrade fairy doesn't visit you. Like why would you get an upgrade on a line you've never sailed on because you take six cruises a year that X has no idea about. Like ta's are basically sales people and simetimes they 'puff'. Like nobody but you really cares if you miss out on an X cruise and you are only denying yourself a fantastic experience. Like instead of being mad at the cruise line why not talk to the ta's manager and tell them he is misrepresenting things, etc, etc.

Or you can just whine...

For someone who cruises 6 times a year I'm really surprised at your lack of knowledge about how things work. You really are making no sense at all.

As others have said, the question here is assured by whom ? Celebrity never assures people of upgrades, so the odds are your TA made a promise on behalf of a third party.

Default Have We Been Had?????

I pointed this thread out to another long time CCer and he suggested we might have been had. In other words, this is a joke. A prank. He specifically pointed out that somebody who sails 6 times a year ought to be more experienced than this. Plus the number of posts (1) and they just joined. Hmmmm........

Default Bogus post???

We use Cruises Only all the time, and have never had anything even resembling misrepresentation. I agree that this smells very much like a bogus post. Six cruises a year, and this level of ignorance??? C.O. is a monstrous agency, with hundreds of agents, but when I talk with mine, I'll see if "Harry Kroll" exists. He might well be real- maybe this clown didn't like his price quote. But if that is the case, the post borders on slander/libel.

A GUARANTEED UPGRADE!!...hang on while I get my breath back from laughing too hard!! I Have had 1 upgrade in ten cruises and I wasn't entitled to that!! I'm not entitled to anything I don't agree to pay for...the sooner coupons, upgrades, free this, free that, are gone from the cruise business the better.

Buy what you want. Enjoy what you buy. And be happy if an upgrade comes your way...be just as happy if it doesn't.

Default phantom guarantee

Never heard of a cat. 9 or better guarantee. Sounds bogus to me to guarantee the highest cabin level in a category since "upgrades" are less common from "inside" to "outside" or "outside" to balcony" than within a category. I agree with the other posters that the complainer is not a very experienced cruiser.

Not that I'm defending lemwnash, but.......as for only 1 post, with these new boards, no one's total posts are what they once were. As for "a Cat 9 guranantee or better"...well. ya....when you book a guarantee category, it means you'll end up in it, or better (higher) so I guess one could say they will have a category 9 or better cabin. But...what is guaranteed is that you will be in at least a category 9 cabin, not that you are guaranteed an upgrade .That's why you book a guarantee. However, being realistic, NO LINE GUARANTEES you the "or better" and certainly, sooner than 90 days prior to the departure NO LINE is going to assign you a higher category than what you agreed to pay for as the minimum. They have an assigned cabin now. What they proabably should have been told is, "this is the cabin we've assinged you right now, IF better cabins are unsold by sailing date, you MIGHT end up in one of them. How stupid would a line be to assign them say, a category 5 cabin when a couple of weeks from now there may be a demand from folks wanting and willing to pay for the category 5 cabins!!! Someone that savy when it comes to cruising would NEVER call the line more than 3 months prior to departure looking for an assinged cabin in ANY category when they booked a "guarantee" even in the category they were guarnateed.
