Maybe Carnival should just quit cruising to any non-US port, after all, nobody likes Americans anymore. And come to think of it, NO isn't very safe, either is Miami...and what about all that gang activity in Los Angeles and New York City? And really...what do we really know about all those hippies in Seattle, anyway? ;-)
When we were in Panama our tour bus was met on the way back and we were escorted by the local police. We found out later it was because another bus was attacked that day and they wanted to make sure everyone made it back to the ship safe. The bus that was attacked was stopped by a tree in the road, the muggers came out of the rainforest when the bus stopped and robbed everyone on the bus. That was on an organized tour booked through RCCL.
My point is this, it can happen anywhere, just be careful and don't take chances. Does that mean you will always be safe? Heck no! I could be mugged walking to my mailbox in my nice little burb back home.
