Default Las Hadas on your own?

We are a family of 7 - 4 adults, a teen, a 6yo and a toddler. Las Hadas sounds like it would be a lot of fun - but we're wondering if it would be possible to get to Las Hadas o nour own - not doing the excursion through the cruise line....
TIA!

Red face Las Hadas-no...karmina Palace-yes

LAS HADAS IS MORE SUITED TO FANCY UPSCALE COUPLES...KARMINA PALACE HAS MANY POOLS AND EATERIES BUT IT IS AN ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT....SO THE EASIEST WAY IS TO GO IS TO TAKE CRUISE EXCURSION...HOWEVER, YOU COULD TAKE A TAXI TO KARMINA PALACE FOR 10-15$ BUT THEN YOU WILL BE LIMITED BECAUSE THE FACILITIES WANT YOU TO PAY A DAY FEE TO USE FACILITIES...i don't think your kids would enjoy this last option...

read about las hadas here

Default We did Las Hadas on our own with kids and loved it!

We have been to both Las Hadas and Karmina's Palace. We prefer Las Hadas by a long shot. We are a family of 5 (3 kids under the age of 8). They have a great kiddie pool and the grounds are amazing. There were definately other kids there. We did not care for Karmina's Palace. It was much more expensive (you need to go through the cruiseline excursions). You will be happy at either spot, but Las Hadas is by far my favorite resort of all the Mexican ports.

soniamaria- Thanks for your input as well. Cost is an issue for us - with 7 people to pay for! The cruise itself cost a pretty penny (or two!) LOL! I have emailed Paco - a recommendation from another CCer and he said he could take us around to the turtle excursion and the Las Hadas with day usage - he said it would cost $300. Im thinking he meant per person - but I'm checking on that. $300/person would be STEAP = over $2000 for one day! Ouch (or is this what I could expect??)...I think that an excusrion would be easier in this port as there is nothing within walking distance....

I'm sure Paco means $300 for the whole group. Manzanillo is very reasonablefor taxis and food. We are in the process of buying a home in Manzanillo and have used Frederico of Haro tours http://www.travelinvasion.com/FedericoLopez.html to drive us and he usually charges about $100per day take us on errands around town.
You could easily get a cab at the port to take you to Las Hadas, it should be about 60 pesos ($6USD) for a car- a van for a large group might be about $100 ($10usd) If possible, get some pesos before you leave home, the taxis will take USD, but prefer pesos. Also, the taxi drivers don't expect a tip.
If this is your first time in Manzanillo, it might be best to rent a driver like Paco or Federico- they both speak excellent English and can give you a great tour.
I've attached some photos from Las Hadas, let me kow if I can help with any other questions. CLick on the thumbnail for a better view.
Have Fun!
