last minute question befor the cruises on sunday, on here ive read thatnear the end of the cruise they usually have big discounts in the duty free shop on board does this include alcohol or is it mainly for jewellery and so on. thanks also to everyone for all the great hints and so on as it makes it a lot easier for 1st time cruises like us to know what to expect

If you are wanting particular spirits, then don't wait for the 'end of cruise' sale, your favourite may have sold out during the cruise.

cheers and enjoy your cruise!!!

If your cruise is going to Vila, you'll probably get the best price there. I got 2 1.25lt bottles of Bundy Rum for AU$40 in Vila last time we were there. They didn't even have any Bundy Rum in the duty free shop on board on that cruise.

Just make sure the quote is in Australian Dollars. They will not match any quotes in Vatu etc.

Wombat, did you get the flyer that gives you 10% off if you buy in the first couple of days?

Because we aren't going to Vila I wonder if they wont have much discounting as there really is no competition.

Not sure what to suggest as I have always bought in Vila.

I've noticed that they seem to have the perfume sale the day before Noumea (we got really cheap perfume in Noumea) and the alcohol sale the day before Vila (again, the grog is really cheap there).

I'd probably hold off til you get ashore and buy it there. They even deliver it to the ship for you to save you carrying it! I got a 1.5l bottle of Baileys in Vila for about $40 and the same for a 1.5l bottle of cointreau. If you're a smoker (or have smoker friends you want to get some for) you can get a carton for about $15 or $20 depending on the brand. They don't always have every brand though. My mum always asks me for a carton of Alpine but they never seem to have it, but they keep the Winnie blues my friend likes LOL!

Have a wonderful first cruise Safe seas

Hi. I honestly couldn't tell you the name of the shop or where we got it sorry I do remember it was a corner shop in the 'nicer' part of town. You walk in the door in the actual corner section of the shop and all the perfumes are at the front. The shop had wooden floors if that helps you recognise it when you get there. Down the back of the shop they had a lot of tourist type souvieners (sp).

The manager pretty much greets everyone at the door and gives out little notes with the daily exchange rates on them.

We saved about $20 or $30 a bottle on some stuff so we bought up big They also had a few perfumes there that i've found it difficult to get here.

Sorry i'm not much help with names & locations, but if you search around a bit for perfume shops with corner entries you'll find it It wasn't too far away from the wharf area. Definatley within walking distance.
