Default Navigator Stuck in Lisbon ...

We are currently on the NOTS transatlantic cruise. The ship has stabilizer problems and got stuck in Lisbon. Our ports of Cadiz and Malaga have been canceled. We are not sure if we will reach Barcelona on Saturday. We are at anchor in the middle of the Tagis River. The captain will update us again in the next hour. Stay tuned....

That's sad that you are missing a couple of ports. How long has the ship been in Lisbon?

We arrived to Lisbon on Tuesday morning .... now it's Wednesday noon (local time) and we are still there ... according to the captain's last announcement, they hope, that they will get the permission to set sail late this afternoon.

Am I correct in assuming that you have not been able to dock in Lisbon due to the stabilizers being stuck in an extended position??

We actually did dock in Lisbon yesterday, but the port was on starboard side.

We just got the information, that the ship will sail to a nearby port "Cascais", where the defective stabilizer has to be cut off completely. At this time, we do not know, if we will reach the final port barcelona on time.

When the transformer blew on the Grandeur we were reimbursed 25% off our next cruise and we got shipboard credit according to the cabin we booked. Not too shabby

Hopefully things will get fixed and you'll be sailing again. Good luck.

I would love to be on that ship. Missing the ports would be dissapointing, but I am sure they will give you something for missing the ports and you get extra time on the ship.

Yikes. That really stinks. Unless you were really looking forward to those ports of calls, I wouldn't really be complaining about enjoying the ship for what could be a few extra days, and some free stuff.

Default How does this work?

How do they replace a chopped off stabilizer? Does it go into dry dock? We're booked July 5th from Barcelona. Can they just sail around with a missing stabilizer without canceling any upcoming trips?

I've seen it on TV (Discovery Channel). A diver will go down with an underwater torch and cut it off. I don't know what the underwater welders/torches are called. I'm so technically challenged (I only know where to put the key and gas in my car) that as far as I know, they use Skywalkers light sabre to cut it.

We too are on the NAVIGATOR STUCK IN LISBON.....everyone's main concern now is that we make Barcelona on time on Saturday otherwise there will be a lot of missed connections...Rick, we know you and we are with Larry and Cherie....

I have a feeling they will have to put the ship in dry dock, but maybe wrong... the government would NOT allow us to leave so we are virtually stuck here until the stabilizer is cut off....so wish us luck...yes they have given us a $100 on board credit, whoopee but I am sure they will, or should compensate us for this... out of 14 days we have only had 2 ports of call and Bermuda, one of them, unfortunately it rained, no fault of the cruise line....so keep your fingers crossed for us..

Wow, so sorry to hear this has happened.
I want to give a shout out to AZ neighbors sebritish, Sherry and Ivor.
Just 2 ports in 14 days, it reminds me of my Navigator cruise in 04 when Hurricane Frances extended our cruise and we had 2 ports in 9 days.

Fingers are crossed....hope you having a good time despite the problems with the Navigator.

Default HELP! growing concerned

There is some discussion that this stabilizer problem occurred sometime around Bermuda and the ship continued sailing across the Atlantic with this problem. It seems like it must be a major problem if the Portugal port authorities would not let us sail. If I was booked on the next cruise I would be calling RCL ASAP.
As fun as it sounds to be "trapped" onboard ship--we have already spent many days at sea- first they cancelled the Azores a few months ago--making it 6 days in a row at sea.
The passengers are discussing getting together to "encourage" RCL to be more forthcoming with compensation etc. Any help that our Cruise Critic friends with publiciity would be greatly ppreciated!

I know that it may be annoying to be "trapped" on a ship, even if I didn't want to get off I would like to know the option is there, but please keep a level head especially if you are going to request compensation.
Remember not to long ago the man who started that little scene with the captain that got him and his family put off the ship. I am not saying that you are like that, I don't know you but I do feel for your situation. Just try to enjoy the ship and your time on vacation. Please keep us posted.
