Ocean Spirit Posted October 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2004 Every ship I've been on it seems they have a different rule about purchasing bottles of liquor and whether or not they will allow you to take it to your cabin. On our last cruise, you could buy bottles but they "stored" it for you until the end of the trip. Does anyone know if they have wine etc. for sell in one of the shops and if so, can you purchase it and take it to your room? Thanks for any information.:)
SunPacific Posted October 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2004 I also would like to know the answer to this for POA - I've seen conflicting information about NCL in general. We would like to buy 2 or 3 bottles of wine in Honolulu and lock them in our luggage when we board. Do they really search each piece of everyone's luggage? Thanks! virgenia Posted October 1, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2004 We just sailed on the POA. You could buy alcohol but they confiscated it at the security checkpoint. You could pick it up prior to disembarking at the end of the cruise. They physically searched all bags, purses, bags each time you came back on board. They even smelled my bottle of water. Ocean Spirit Posted October 2, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted October 2, 2004 Virgina, Even smelled your bottles of water!!!! Oh my goodness! Were they allowing folks to carry on Diet Cokes? Thanks for the information. Maria
segerd Posted October 2, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2004 Hi Maria, They checked every open bottle of anything that we brought back on the ship. Didn't really bother us, just another check we had to go through to get back on the POA.
virgenia Posted October 2, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2004 Maria, Yes, I bought a 6-pack of Diet Coke at a small shopping center that you could walk to at the port in Kauai. No problem bringing it on. Virginia
CalicoCat Posted October 2, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2004 We'll be sailing on the Star in November and I've been wondering about the liquor policy on that ship. On another forum, folks say some lines allow you to order bottles from room service and they deliver it! Others are allowed to buy from the duty shop on board and some allow them to take it to their room. Does anyone know the Star's policy? I certainly hope it's not as bad as POA's! Copper_beeches Posted October 3, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2004 You can buy bottles of wine and drinks and have them delivered to your room. This is NOT the same as the duty free shop, which isn't applicable on POA anyway I don't think... You can order anything off the wine list, or from the bar, and have it brought to your room. You are not allowed to bring alcohol of any kind on board, this is a NCL/NCLA wide policy... I only know the majesty, they had you put anything you were bringing back on board through a baggage screener... they confiscate alcohol and hold until the last night, though they weren't taking alcohol from people when we left Bermuda... SunPacific Posted October 3, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 3, 2004 I know they search your carry ons getting back on at the different ports. I'm wondering about the initial boarding in Honolulu, packing 2 or 3 bottles of wine in our locked luggage that arrives at the room later, not in the carry on bags. Thanks, Carol
virgenia Posted October 3, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2004 Carol, I am pretty sure any bottles of booze would be caught in the screening process they do with all luggage. It is x-rayed just like at the airport--unless you carried it in like Listerine bottles--there's a thought for you. Virginia
KLynnG Posted October 4, 2004 #11 Share Posted October 4, 2004 They must be checking a lot more closely than the used to. In March 2001 (Elation) & Feb. 2004 (NCL Star) I smuggled in a pre-mixed 1.75 ltr bottle of Margaritas in my luggage with no problem. It sounds like I better plan on buying a bar set up in June 2005. DAVEM331 Posted October 4, 2004 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2004 Just returned from 9/19 POA cruise - Had two bottles of Vodka in my checked bags - and both made it through to the cabin.
