Default Shore Excursion - NCL Gem to Bahamas (1st time)

Hello, I will going on the NCL Gem's cruise next Saturday. This is my first cruise, therefore hope you can give some advices.

1) Our first port will be Port Canaveral, Florida. What would be the best way to get to Orlando? Or would you suggestion other destinations?
2) Please suggest some Shore Excursion from NCL (the other Bahama's Islands). As this is my first time, I plan to stick with the ones by NCL.
3) If we don't book any excursions before we board, would it be difficult to find something to do when we get there?
4) The temperature should be in High 70's.. would that be warm enough to snorkel?

Finally, any additional advices or recommendations would be highly appreciated, as I have so much questions I don't even know what to ask.

Many Many thanks.

Welcome aboard.

Orlando - keep in mind, that it is a good hour to Orlando. It can be a very busy, long and tiring day to go there. Consider the Space complex.

Excursions in General - do not feel that you have to take one everyday. Some ports are fine to just walk around. Some people take organized excursions at every port, and others rarely take any and others take private ones. Stay flexible. Though many do sell out, there are often still some available when you board.

As you said, first times often do not know what to ask. Check on the link below, especially the part about roll calls and ports of call.

Hello! Are you sailing on Dec 6th? Did you check our our roll call? We are planning to meet at sail away and have a Meet and Greet planned for Sunday morning. Check it out and consider signing up for the Meet and Greet. There are about 40 people or so, they'll have plenty of ideas for you. Hope to see you next week, Rose

We just got back from doing a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas on the Sky.

One excursion that I would recommend is the Segway tour in Nassau. We had a blast.

It is not a city tour. They take you by van from the port to their trail. They give you an overview of how to use the Segway. Equip you with a helmet, kneepads, and shoulder pads. Then they help you get on the segway and coach you through how to use it on a small test track. After that you head out with your guide on the trail. Every so often they stop to give you pointers and instruct you on something new, and turn it from turtle mode (beginner) to rabbit mode. Halfway through you get to a dirtbike type course where you can go around it several times as well as take a short break.

I know a lot of people went to do Atlantis on Nassau, but we're glad we did the Segaway tour.

We were on the Gem back in April. We did the airboat ride in Pt. Canaveral. I was skeptical, but we had a great time. In Nassau, we took the bus to one of the hotels and bought a guest pass for the day. That was fun and very relaxing and also fairly inexpensive. Have fun!
