Default Women's satin tuxedo pantsuit?

How do you all feel about a women's satin tuxedo pantsuit for formal night? The jacket isn't fitted, frilly or glittery at all, but it is black satin with contrasting bronze satin accents (collar & cuffs). I'd wear it with a black lace camisole underneath. I have black satin evening shoes with rhinestone trim and can wear nice jewelry with it.

It would definitely be understated because the jacket isn't fitted--I think it's sort of like what people call a smoking jacket, but without the belt. Let's see if I can find an image of something even remotely like it.

This isn't a perfect image because my jacket hangs open with the contrasting bronze satin lining showing and the collar and cuffs are bronze. The pants are black satin as well.

I think the family pictures might look funny, with my husband in his suit and me in mine. I could take the jacket off for the pictures and wear the lace cami with the satin pants, I guess.

Any thoughts? You can tell I'm a little ambivalent but it really is a beautiful outfit; I'm just not sure it's right for this.

Cool

Please don't take this the wrong way...but from this guy's perspective...it looks like something I would expect to see Hillary Clinton wear...and I believe Hillary wears those outfits for one reason...that is to hide what she has and hide what she does not have...my humble opinion...Hillary...if you are out there reading this board...SORRY

I wear a tux front dicky w/rhinestone butons, and blk bow tie. have paired w/ various bottoms. Also share hubbys tux..with sometimes a brite silk scarf "dickey". I am very femme'..and like my look..lots o sparkle goes well with..Bon Voyage..lucky(Dillards has their carwash pants again)

I personally like the look. I think it looks classy and, if worn well, can look just as flattering (if not moreso) as a dress.

What it comes down to, I think, is personal opinion and taste. This is a lovely suit, in my opinion. I think it would be perfectly acceptable for the occasion at hand. How do you feel about it, though? If it's not quite your style or if you'd feel more appropriate (or even comfortable) in a dress, that may be the better option for you.

The material makes it "evening appropriate". You'll be fine wearing it.

First of all as long as you don't look like this together...

I think that you will look great in the pictures together, with or without your jacket...

Tuxedo inspired women's clothing also has been a definite trend this past year on the runways...

Lot's of beautiful women have been wearing this tuxedo inspired style out and about to events...

And who can forget the original Diane Keaton...

The real, true original original, Marlene Deitrich

And one of my favorite sexy movie scenes of all time...
Jennifer Beals in her tuxedo in Flashdance

Can you tell that I approve?

That being said, a few guidelines to making a tuxedo style work well on a woman (for that feminine, sexy, cute look)...
(Only do one of these, not all, or you'll look cheap).

Either make sure that it is tailored very feminine.
Or make sure there is some skin showing.
Or make sure there are extremely feminine blouses and accessories paired with it.

(I love Ellen DeGeneres as a person, but she doesn't do any of those things above. That is why she doesn't ever look feminine sexy).

So there is my Three Cents on the matter!

CJW, will you be my personal stylist???? You are fabulous!

I promise that if our pictures do end up looking like your first set, I will post them here so you can all have a good chuckle.

Of my three "feminizing" options, I'm going to have to go with skin, because the jacket isn't tailored close to the body, and I don't really have frilly. Maybe my husband will like this after all. . . .

THanks to all of you for your input. You can always count on CC'ers to tell it like it is, right?

I think it looks real nice. I have worn something similiar when my DH was in a suit.

Curt, you took the words right out of my mouth! A tuxedo can look frumpy or fabulous on a woman depending on how she wears it, accessories it, etc.

I wear mine with black satin shoes that are adorned with black shiny stones and black beads. Too many women sparkle and shine on top and then go drab at the feet, which takes away from the overall effect.

Also with this look I think that bright red lipstick is a must along w/ dramatic eyelashes. A tuxedo on a woman needs a more dramatic makeup to make it sizzle!

First of all, thank you so much!
I try to help here on CC as best I can.
But, you might have to get in line for personal styling.
I just helped quite a few ladies here for a recent vacation event in November.

We will laugh and appreciate, but somehow I don't think you will end up looking like that.

I can guarantee that if you do it right, then your husband will absolutely like it!
As far as showing a bit of skin, always good in this case.
In general, I think that if you are on the slimmer side and an A cup or B cup, then you can do well with the low cuts on some of the models above.
If you are fuller, then a nice classy blouse or cami with a more fitted shape that just shows a "hint" of decolletage is best.
I'll look for some examples to post (just for fun and ideas for any other future cruisers) after this, later on...

I love it! (And yes, I ama female) - I would soooooooo wear this!

In fact, I just bought a new pair of black satin tuxedo pants 2 days ago for our upcoming cruise - and I intend to wear them. As everone says, glam up the 'inside' top, makeup and shoes and you will be smashing!

I love it when I'm able to do that. Any new readers on these boards should know that if Jane 110 and I agree on something, then it is absolutely solid fashion advice!

I'm not complaining.
And, she was taking the "showing some skin" guideline and making it work.
It didn't hurt that she ate lobster dipped in butter seductively with her fingers either...
Hmmm. Maybe a good idea for formal night, hopefully when a couple is just at a table for two.

I also found a more conservative version of her shirt in that...

Totally cute. Now that you all brought this idea up here, I might have to buy that halter tuxedo blouse for MCJW for our next cruise!

...and difficult to tell without actually seeing it, or the woman wearing it...

But Victoria's Secret actually has a lot of nice options that could work or give inspirational ideas to anyone thinking about this option.

Anyone else have any more inspirational ideas or suggestions?
Feel free to add to it!
