Fun to do with Kids?

We will be spending 1 day here ,when we sail in March. This is our first cruise. We will have a 14 month old and a 3 year old. So they are both in carseats and of course we would love NOT to take the carseats, they are huge and bulky.

Anyways we will be traveling with Carnival. Is there anything we can do in progreso that we wont have to take a taxi or anything that needs carseats....

Given the ages of your children, why not just head to the beach in Progreso and enjoy the water and great food? Lots of restaurants have beach-side service, there are vendors selling hand-made kites, and the water is shallow and safe.

Thanks we probably will do that. Is there any transportation to take that isnt like a taxi that we would need carseats? like a shuttle or bus?

I'm in a similar situation. The beach is what we want to do but i read on an earlier thread post that the water wasn't pretty and full of seaweed.

It's true that the water here is on the Gulf of Mexico, not the Caribbean but it is clean, shallow, and safe. The seaweed comes and goes depending on the weather. The beaches are clean with great beach-side restaurant service, massage therapists, and vendors selling handmade kites and beach toys.

Carseats are optional in Mexico anyway, so you won't need them, legally speaking! If you were to take the funky bus tour around Progreso, you could just keep the kids on your lap.

Personally, I'd just take them to the beach and let 'em run on the sand. They might enjoy the freedom of being off the ship and just play on the beach.
