Default Two Days in Cabo

Carnival has just announced a new five-night itinerary on Carnival Elation, sailing roundtrip from San Diego and featuring two full days in Cabo San Lucas. But there's a catch: the ship will not overnight in port, but instead will depart at night and return the next day.

What's your take on this unusual itinerary option? Please vote in our poll and share your opinions below.

Default I'm excited!

We were one of the lucky people already booked and allowed to change itineraries when Carnival made the change. We are booked on the 8/8/09 sailing and looking forward to 2 days in Cabo.

My thoughts are, the stays in Cabo have historically been to short to do much. These 2 longer days will give us a beach day and a day to tour and bar hop. I really would have preferred one night be longer so that guests could take part in sunset cruises and/or dinner cruises. While Carnival might lose some money in the casino or bar they would make up for some for it in offering these type excursions.

I can't wait it only 17 weeks away!!

At least if you miss the ship on the 1st day you know they will be back for you the next day.

Cabo is a tender port. If the waters rough and they can't tender back in you are SOL...

seems crazy, but they want you to gamble in the evening, if they stay over no casino! The idea of two days is great, I love Cabo, but its poorly executed here!

Ok that makes sense. I knew there had to be a reason to blow fuel but the casino makes sense.

The non-overnight stay is nothing but a way to make on-board revenue. If the ship stays in port the casino must remain closed, the on-board shops must remain closed, and greatly reduced spending in the bars. Carnival is using the ploy of a multi-day stop to lure passengers with false ideas of partying in Cabo under the stars. Instead they will pull up anchor head out to international waters and open the cash-registers. How much do you want to bet that on at least 60-70% of sailings (or more) one of the 2 port days is missed due to "unfavourable tendering conditions"! Deceptive and all too typical of the cruise industry in general

??? I think your statistics are off. Never missed a port yet in the 4 cruises I've been on that had them. (I didn't count the two cruises to nowhere.) Carnival also makes tons of money from shore excursions and kickbacks from shopping in port - I had a CD tell me that port days vs. sea days were almost equal money makers assuming the ship wasn't in port late into the evening. I certainly don't see any false advertising - they disclose the port times each day.

Thanks for posting the dates, as you can see July 2nd is one of the most expensive time of the year to cruise. Hope they have this 5 dayer in Oct and Nov.

Cabo is all about the night life. The place doesn't get rocking until 10 or so! The beaches are OK, but the real fun is Cabo Wabo and El Squid Roe

what ever happened to the notion of cruiselines trying to conserve fuel? How often do ships really miss Cabo due to high seas...I bet its a lot less than CocoCay or Half Moon Cay or Princess Cay. I'm sure there's a poor fisherman (who is used to the seas and works in it everyday) in town that would be happy to take you out to the ship if the tenders are too chicken! For a handsome fee!
