Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. @scottie920, most of the responses I got were that there was no charge to bring a bottle to the dining room, but it would be wise to quietly speak to the server prior to bringing it. One member said that the server took the bottle and brought it back for refilling the glasses. Most that have seen it said they didn't notice anyone being charged. As always, it's best to ask before you do so. I'm sure if it's for a special occasion, they will do what they can to help out.
  2. @scottie920, I've asked another group if anyone has done so and would know the cost. I can't imagine it being to much, if anything.
  3. Glad you found something. To tell the truth, the websites for both Scenic and Emerald are so bad, I gave up even looking to see what they have. I am amazed that they are so user UNfriendly.
  4. Even if your air was booked through Avalon, I'd keep an eye on the airline's app. We learned through it before the Avalon one that our flights were delayed. Avalon was a bit later, but the airline one is best for up to date info.
  5. OK, I have been avoiding Paris as long as I can...big cities terrify me, to many people. I was thinking more of your cruise for the Douro. 🙂
  6. I'm actually probably a TA's worse nightmare. I research (like 2-3 years ahead) so I know what to expect and what I can possibly see. So when I email my TA to tell her I'd like to book "x" cruise, she goes ahead and pre-books it, so when I stop in later that day to go over things, she *thinks* she is starting off well. She knows what cabins we like, so that's ok, but it's all the double checking I do for sales etc. that keeps her on her toes...and the flights. We always ask Avalon to make a note on file that we may be using their air, but even for my cruise next May (2025) I've been checking the flights they provide so she will know what ones to check. 🙂 Pontac, would Mrs. P like travelling by train instead of plane? You are lucky in Europe, your trains are so much better than ours.
  7. @pontac, that sounds like what I put my TA through... 🙂 Good thing she puts up with me, although I am doing more and more of the research for her.
  8. Feel free to ask any questions you wish, we will be glad to help you out as much as possible. I've sailed with Avalon twice, with a 3rd coming up next May. Love the company, nice and relaxed, but great service and food. I've never done the Tulip time cruise, but looking forward to hearing your views on it.

    Air Travel

We book with our line, but I also use a TA. I’m fussy on what airline I travel with, and also the route, so before it comes time to ticket, my TA and I have already selected the flights. Avalon has been great at booking them, at a better rate than we find. If I don’t extend pre or post, they provide transfers, but that’s not a problem. Once they ticket, I can select our seats and upgrade them if needed, all I have to do is go to airlines site, paying directly to them. We had our seats booked before our final payment last cruise, it felt weird paying for the seats before we paid for the flights. 😀 We fly next May, but I have already been looking at what is available.
  10. @Canal archive, I agree about using an iPad for photos. I usually have my phone in my pocket, but my camera around my neck. You can easily get USB card readers to transfer pictures. We d/l all of ours to Google photos for easy viewing on my iPad, but save all from both of our phones to the card from my camera for when we get home and can view on our monitor for editing. I take 1 card for each day so it’s easy to keep track. My husband is just really glad everything is digital as I am known to take several shots of the same thing to make sure I get a good photo.
  11. I believe I "emailed" each daily, menu etc. to my address, then opened & saved it there. You have to be able to convert the file to a .pdf. If you are on a Mac, you may be able to d/l the app on your Mac through the Apple store? I know some are downloadable, but not positive how to go about it. We travel with tablets, so I use those as well as my phone. 🙂 As for the app showing multiple flights, don't worry about it. Double check with your airline's app, they will have the correct information, or your TA. It's on both the Avalon app and the Globus app, some have it fixed, some don't.
  12. I'm sure if it was a "hack", they would have taken it down. No one seems to have lost it, just getting all the flight data. Avalon has long been known as being "green". That is why the went to the app, and paperless travel packets. The loss of dailies is just going further. I like it, so much got left behind and when I get home, I can download it to my desktop and save it for future reference...as well as menus.
  13. It was a glitch with all Globus groups, hopefully it’s fixed now. @jsn55, it’s handy to have for your cruise as they don’t leave dailies in your cabin anymore. I think you can ask for them at reception, but not sure.
  14. I would say it's like the Douro cruises...only so much you can do in a certain area.
  15. @bubbulz, can you transfer credits amongst the different brands?
