Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Covering the cost of the cruise is one side of the coin. Most of our trips are international and our medical insurance is does not cover us when we are out of the country.
  2. Looking at flying with Iceland Air and their highest economy class fare is refundable. The hotel has refundable rates and all the shore excursions (private) are refundable. The only cost that is not fully refundable is the cruise fare. Everyone on this cruise has to fly in (unless you live there) so if the airport is closed due to the eruption there will be no one to take the cruise.
  3. Been planning to book a 7 day cruise around Iceland from Reykjavik to Reykjavik in July 2025. The current eruption is now considered a known event for travel insurance purposes. I have read that travel insurance purchased after the eruption started will not cover you should your travel be impacted because of the eruption. I realize that my travel is sometime in the future but the last time this volcano erupted was 800 years ago and it went on for years. My main concern is flying into Reykjavik. Right now the ash is being blown away from the airport 18 miles away. If the eruption is still active and the ash plumb causes my flight to be cancelled insurance purchased going forward will not cover you. Am I correct in my assumptions.
  4. Our interest in the Summit was that they offered a10 day cruise from San Juan to the ABC Islands with stops at three additional southern Caribbean Islands. The cruises to the ABC’s from Ft. Lauderdale are basically there and back with three or four at sea days. That’s still an option.
  5. I saw earlier that in Jan 2025 the Summit offered a 10 day cruise to the ABC Islands from San Juan. Now on the Celebrity Website the month of January for the Summit is blank. Anyone know what is going on with the Summit.
  6. Is it possible to purchase insurance to cover a non-refundable deposit. The cost difference in a cruise fare with a non-refundable deposit vs a refundable deposit is significant. Deposits for a 7 day cruise are around $500 and go north quickly as the length of the cruise increases. If I were 20 years younger I probably would take the gamble on a non-refundable deposit. Not so much now. If I could purchase coverage on a $500 deposit for $100 I would do so. Is there such a thing.
  7. Can I back you up to Guernsey. Did you need to get tender tickets for your trip ashore? We are part of a small group that wish to take the same tender as we are on the same shore excursion. Interested in what the tendering process entails.
  8. Have read from others who have blogged about this cruise that the temperature on the ship is on the cool side. We are on this cruise sailing July 31 and I had planned on wearing short sleeve shirts to the MDR’s. Would sweaters be a better choice.
  9. We took the train from Seattle to Vancouver in 2016 for a cruise on Star Princess to Alaska on the day the cruise sailed. Beautiful trip, saw lots of Eagles. Walked from the train station to cruise port. Friends of ours who lived in Seattle took the ride with us. They took the train back to Seattle after we boarded the ship. On their way back to Seattle the train in front of them hit a person who was on the tracks. Their return was delayed for hours. If this had happened on the way to Vancouver we would have missed the cruise. But what are the chances of that happening. We buy trip insurance.
  10. Will be on the Regal in July. How can I find out if the Crab Shack Speciality Dining will be offered during our cruise and how do you make reservations?
  11. On the Saturday we boarded the ship, they offered a video Mass in the theater at 10 pm. It was live from the Vatican. Not sure they offer this every Saturday as this was Easter Sunday for us. There is a church on Maui not far from the cruise terminal that has a 6pm Mass on Sunday that we considered. Check the “Freestyle Daily” when you get to your cabin to see if the Mass is offered.
  12. mooline: Ended up going to St Augustine by the Sea on Ohua Street. It’s across the street from Waikiki Beach. Very easy walk from Hilton Hawaiian Village. Beautiful church. The priest was barefoot. Mass was at 5pm on Saturday.
  13. Being a Formal night how did everyone dress. Would dress slacks and shirt with a tie work for men. Can’t really justify packing a sports coat for one dinner.
  14. CheifMateJRK - Thanks for you reply. We chose the cruise over Easter so our grandsons could join us for a week at Waikiki. It pains my wife that she might miss Easter Mass but her grandkids are important to her. I did find a Catholic Church near the cruise Port Kahului on Maui with a 6:00pm Sunday Mass that we can make so I earned some points. 🙏🙏🙏
  15. My wife and I sail on the Pride of America April 8th. Sunday April 9 is Easter Sunday and we are booked on the Road to Hana Tour on Maui. My wife would very much like to experience Mass that day even if it is on line. There is a chapel on POA and wondered if NCL would offer a service of some kind on Easter. The other option is to view a Mass on line. We have the ships basic WiFi packages but under stand that it is not suited for live streaming. The other option is to download a Mass and watch it once we return from our excursion but have no idea how to go about that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
