  1. Thank you so much for the response. Once again, I read too much into the requirements. I went back into the Gov't of Canada's site and in the "Ecuador Travel Advice" the Entry and Exit Requirements clearly read as only in the crossing points with land or river borders with Peru and Columbia will we need to present the crim checks from their country of residence. I should have looked at a map then I would have realized that our port stop is in Manta, Ecuador and we won't be crossing any land or river borders. Same thing as Lima, Peru. At least it clears my mind and I can continue on with my cruise plans (even though the cruise isn't until March 2024). Cheers, Frances (NWT Cruiser)
  2. Accidentally copied (quote) by mistake.
  3. I really hope you're right. I read documents and I know I overthink and overanalyze a lot (with a little bit of stress and anxiety) which impedes my ability to articulate thoughts clearly and it usually materializes when I have to make a tough decision. I was booked on a cruise (which stops in Ecuador) for later this year and cancelled it ... thought I would be safer to book for next winter and see if any Canadians experience any type of problem regarding the Apostille. Fingers crossed ... smooth sailing. Cheers, Frances (NWT Cruiser)
  4. I'm on Princess Sapphire and it has a stop in Ecuador. I was looking forward to this port but who knows, Princess may skip it too. Just weird that U.S. citizens belong to the Apostille Convention since 1981 and they are saying that no documents were required for them on previous cruises that stopped at this port. Fingers crossed ... no documents required for Canadians.
  5. I went back into my message but it must be closed off for me to "edit". I'm sure he'll see my message that is two quotes ahead of yours now that you have him highlighted as a notification to him. Thanks for this tidbit on using the @ before a name.
  6. Fouremco, I'm hoping you can help with this. We have a cruise booked to travel from Buenos Aires with a port stop in Ecuador. I have read that Canada has recently joined the Apostille Convention on January 11, 2024 and on the Gov't of Canada site I seen that Ecuador requires a Criminal Record check that needs to be apostilled. On a couple of the forums for previous cruises in South America, I asked U.S. citizens what is really required since the U.S. was part of the Convention since October 1981. The answers I rec'd from U.S. citizens stated that when they travelled to Ecuador the last few years, they did not apply or need any such document. Hoping you can clarify (in simple English) what this all means. Thank you. Frances (NWT Cruiser) https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/ecuador#entryexit Entry restrictions at land and river borders with Peru and Colombia On January 11, 2024, the Government of Ecuador announced new entry restrictions as part of the ongoing state of internal armed conflict. All foreigners entering Ecuador at crossing points with land or river borders with Peru and Colombia will need to present a criminal records check from their country of origin or residence. Both the original criminal record check and the Spanish translation must be apostilled and cover the past five years. Minors travelling with their family members will generally be exempt. The Apostille Convention took effect in Canada on January 11, 2024. An apostille is a standard certificate allowing documents to be accepted in all countries where the convention is in effect. About the Canadian Apostille Process If you have Canadian documents for use in Ecuador, your documents will first need to be apostilled by the relevant Canadian authority. The Canadian apostille process is often a multi-step process. Click below for more information on these steps. Document Apostille forEcuador Canadian documents that need to be officially recognized in Ecuador will need to obtain an apostille from the relevant Canadian authority. Contact us to get started!
  7. Thank you for the explanation. I read too fast and because I'm from a territory (NWT) I didn't quite read it right. Silly me, I really think I'm dyslexic. I've been doing a lot of this the last couple years ... reading between the lines. lol But, once again, thanks for clarifying this. Cheers, Frances (NWT Cruiser)
  8. Thank you both for the info on recommendations and requirements re covid vaccinations. Like you both said, it's way too early right now to check what vaccines (if any) will be mandated in April. I will check back in January for any updates required. LHT28, thank you for the reminder re applying for our eTA's which we will get after the new year sometime. CDNPolar, thank you for a great tip on comparing the travel sites of our Canadian gov't and the gov't of the country travelling to (in this case Australia & New Zealand). Cheers, Frances (NWT Cruiser)
  9. We are flying into Australia in April 2024 and will be going on a 10 night New Zealand cruise and continuing on (18 night Trans Pacific) from Sydney to Honolulu. Sorry for the indepth (perhaps silly questions) I'm asking, but I want to make sure we are getting all our documents beforehand (instead of finding out at the airport we are missing some type of requirement documentation and won't be able to board our flight). QUESTION #1: Australia states they require us to be vaccinated against Covid. If we only rec'd the first 2 vacs (although there are now about 5 boosters available) can we still board? On the Cdn. Gov't site gc.ca gov't site for travellers to Australia (in the Health section) it shows the following: It is recommended that all eligible travellers complete a COVID-19 vaccine series along with any additional recommended doses in Canada before travelling. (Is this just a recommendation, and you don't necessarily have to complete the series as long as you have at least two vaccinations)? On the Gov't of Australia site it states: All incoming travellers will need to comply with the testing and quarantine requirements of the state or territory of their arrival, and any other state or territory to which they plan to travel. Restrictions can change at any time. (Does this mean travellers from Canada need to comply with our Cdn. Requirements which is just a recommendation)? QUESTION #2: Do we have to show proof of covid insurance when travelling to both of the above countries? We were only planning to buy emergency medical insurance and trip cancellation. QUESTION #3: And, lastly, am I reading information correctly? No travellers need to show proof of covid vaccinations when entering New Zealand. Thank you. Frances (NWT Cruiser)
  10. Thanks to all of you. I will apply about 6 weeks before we leave for eTAs only that are required for Australia and New Zealand. I didn't think about going right into the AU and NZ sites regarding this ... I only looked at the Cdn. gov't. site. Glad to have asked the question and to receive all the responses.
  11. Thank you so much for the responses. I suppose this is my question and I didn't word it right ... do we need a Tourist Visa along with an eTA for Australia? Thanks, again.
  12. We are Canadians flying into Australia on April 1, 2024 (for a couple nights before getting on a cruise ship to New Zealand and onto French Polynesia). On the travel.gc.ca government site, it shows we DO NOT need a Tourist Visa only an ETA for Australia and New Zealand. Is this information correct? When I went to Sydney, AU in 2020 I needed an actual Tourist Visa. Also do we require a visa (whether an actual Tourist Visa or eTA) to go into French Polynesia? Are there any Canadian travellers that have gone into Australia, New Zealand and/or French Polynesia this last year? If so can you please advise? Thank you.
  13. By the way, the family of 4 mentioned above are from Calgary too.
  14. My daughter and her husband and 2 children are on a short MSC cruise out of Egypt to Jeddah (March 25 - March 29). They have flights the same afternoon they arrive on the ship from Jeddah to Dubai. It seems like they will each need a visa (or maritime visa) which costs approx. $200 Cdn. a person ($800 for the family). Seems ridiculous ... getting off the ship and going directly to the airport and a visa is required. They'll apply for the visa (electronically) while on board the ship. Maybe there's a chance their passports will be stamped showing just a transfer is required.
