Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Just got off the Dream. No pictures but I did like the Louisiana inspired dishes. Had Jambalaya one night and Shrimp Fettucine another. They also served Natchitoches meat pies as an appetizer for the Diamond gathering on the first day however I did not find this on the regular menu. All were very good.
  2. Thanks for the responses. The total bill was $2500 which was paid to my onboard account. My health insurance paid the $1400 to the contracted medical provider. I did contact Carnival who simply said they did not receive payment. I contacted my health insurance company, and they are providing me documents and contact information for the company they paid. Once this is resolved I can file on my travel insurance for the balance. There was no deductible involved and frankly I was pleasantly surprised my insurance company paid anything. I was hoping someone might have experienced a similar situation.
  3. I have a question about medical reimbursement. My wife became ill on a cruise, and we paid $2500 to Carnival for onboard medical care. My health insurance sent me a notice that they paid $1400 of this claim, and I found out it went to a company contracted by Carnival. The illness was nine months ago, and I received this notice recently but have not received any reimbursement as yet, but it seems I should have this portion of my payment returned. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how long did it take to receive reimbursement?
  4. Absolutely disagree. 31 cruises and just got off of the Miracle. It is by far my favorite Carnival ship. Bigger is not better and I have been on the Vista several times because it sails out of Galveston. The Miracle may be gaudy, but the Vista has all the charm of an IBM office hallway. The Miracle had no waiting in long food lines at any time and the elevators were not packed and slow moving as it is on larger ships. I will continue to cruise on the larger ships, but only because that is what is usually available, but it seems to me the only advantage they seem to have is a larger television.
  5. I think I may have seen something about this in the past, but I don't recall the answer. I have in my offers the opportunity for a B2B of a day Baja and 14 day Alaska cruise out of Long Beach with free balcony, $1,000 and DOU throughout the ship. It seems I read somewhere that one would not receive the casino credits on a B2B. Has anyone done this previously?
  6. Thanks for the review. As it happens, we were getting on the Miracle as you were getting off. I can echo much of what you said about the Miracle. short lines, great food etc. This was my first non-Galveston cruise out of 31, (I am from the other side of DFW in Arlington) and I really like the Miracle much more than the newer and larger Carnival ships. Had I read your review earlier I would have sampled the Caribbean iced tea rather than the Long Island version. We enjoyed the cruise so much we are booked on the Spirit next July out of Seattle. Maybe we will cross paths out of Galveston in the future (or more likely already have.).
  7. I was on the Miracle for a recent Alaska cruise. It was my 31st cruise and sixth Carnival ship and now has become my favorite. I am no fan of the larger ships such as Vista which has all the character and charm of a hospital corridor. Loved the fact that the Miracle had short if any lines for the food venues, uncrowded elevators and a distinctive look I found to be far more interesting than the newer ships. My only complaint is the same as with all Carnival ships concerning casino slots which is too many of certain types of machines and too few of the Tower machines. Unfortunately, I will continue to cruise out of Galveston due to location and will be seeing more of the Vista and not enough of the Miracle.
  8. OK I know it is a small thing, but on the Carnival Vista the Blue Iguana no longer provides taco shells for taco salad. I don't know if this is temporary or if it is limited to just this one ship, but I was not happy about it. By the way, as some have noted Guy's Burgers have also declined. Seems to be something about a change in seasoning but it is just not as good as in the past.
