Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I’m.on the Sojourn next month, and they are closing TK for week to reopen as Solis, presumably an updated replacement for all to enjoy.
  2. Thank you fellow travelers , I know a mess when it’s coming . I’ll change to a later flight or next day , life is too short to play with fire for no reason Westmount
  3. My Flight would be at 445 PM and was worried, as a rep from Seabourn mentioned arrival at 5 pm , which didn't really make sense unless the incoming passengers flew down late morning. I gather the flights down are early morning then. Westmount
  4. I see that disembarkation from the Venture is stated as 7 am, but I didn't see what time the flight back to Buenos Aires leaves Ushuaia so as to plan my return flight home. Going in December and very excited. Westmount
  5. Yes there are men in tuxedos on formal nights, in the dining room, as they choose, but we are having an awful high number of casual nights that everyone is taken care of. If you bring a couple of blazers and clean shirts, finding god food to eat on the ship is not a problem. I didn’t bring a tie, nor cared to, and found hunger in la Terrazza or even the outdoor grill does not go on. Don’t sweat the dress code, just respect those around you.
  6. I’m on the whisper , my first Silverseas cruise, dress code is enforced, sort of, but every night seems to be casual,, although we’ve had two formal nights already. My take is is some people really want to dress up, but after 10 hours on a bus somewhere, most people really don’t care and are very happy with great food, wine and friends, a tie and dinner jacket not the key ingredient .
  7. I’m on my first ever Silverseas cruise and was quite nervous about the dress code issue. All I can say is there are people who like to “dress up” for dinner and there’s those that don’t. Tonight is formal night on the whisper and I’m eating in the Italian restaurant with a blazer and it all seems to work. The staff doesn’t seem to be pushing ties and tuxedos too much, I gather they are just trying to keep the old guard happy, why not? I was always a Seabourn guy, still like them, but this little ship needs some work , but is wonderful, and I should have tried them a long time ago. Congrats Silverseas, you have a convert in your midst.
  8. I’m onthe whisper, which doesn’t have many options, but at the same time is small enough to get to know half the passengers on two excursions. I don’t plan to be a hermit, only getting dressed like James Bond while on my own is not happening. I will bring a couple blazers through, if that’s what’s needed not to get arrested , and might like Silverseas enough to want to return, don’t want a black mark on my record thanks Wedtmount
  9. I booked Silverseas for a great little trip from Sydney to Auckland as I thought they and Seabourn were in step with each other etc. Due to the loss of my wife, I’m a solo traveller now, and worry that although top notch, Silverseas might be a bit behind the times ( my opinion) in allowing people to dress nicely, but necessarily enforcing a dress code from the 70s. Because I’m travelling solo, I’ve booked dinners in advance, with no clue when formal nights will occur, so I do hope the positives outweigh the negatives in booking with them vs the other great carriers. The timing was great for this trip, hopefully I won’t have to order room service half thr nights.I’ll bring a couple of jackets and steal a tie , but do believe adult dinners don’t include ties and tuxedos any longer., nevermind the $500 Jean issue. 10. I was on a wonderful cruise last April from Dubai to Athens, and happened to book three massages in advance for the 18 day trip. When I got on board, I noticed they had a special, with a declining price for each treatment, and asked for the special rate for the three treatments. The first day, the girl at the desk said ok, and thus, after finishing a wonderful treatment, I tipped my masseuse nicely, since I getting a decent deal and figured better it goes to her etc. When I saw her before the next treatment, she thanked me for the tip, not knowing that in fact, the manager refused to credit me, and thus my tip was on top of the pre paid full price including 18 % . We got into a whole discussion, as they said I was able to get better times etc, and the special was to "fill" the non pre booked times etc. I'm a simple guy, and figure when one is paying a pretty high price for a no hassle Seabourn cruise, the last thing that should occur is a nickel/dime Spa story that cost a client a couple hundred dollars for no good reason. I now understand that the Spa is separate, and I will not be pre booking spa treatments in the future, but of all the great things I love about Seabourn is the fact that you pay the price and then enjoy the trip, and I must say, the Spa almost ruined it for me, and Seabourn should know the client is always right when its policy vs doing the right thing. Good luck to us all Westmount
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm new to Silverseas, but have done my time with the other lines. My agent booked me all in without flights, but it seems to me that it's about $2000 for taxi rides to the ship , so I don't quite see what the deal is. I'm on a great trip from Sydney to Auckland, and look forward to my first Silverseas trip, but is there something I'm not understanding on why there's a $2000 charge for all in without Flights or hotel vs port to port?? Excursions

Trying Silverseas for the first time after many years on the other great lines. As a solo traveler now, I must say I was impressed on the value they gave me on a fabulous trip from Sydney to Auckland in a room of my choice. The question I have is whether the excursions offered are worth perusing, or should I simply plan my own, as I don't really want to visit a cigar store or church, but wish to bike, hike or explore the wonderful countryside of New Zealand and Australia. Westmount
  13. I figure this is the best place to ask a silly question, but when tendering in Amalfi/Positano, is there a set location where the tenders arrive at, as I thought Positano. Thanks
  14. I have been reading this little thread and have one funny thing to say. I book all my own flights, and believe the cruise lines do great cruises but it's not hard doing your own travel arrangements. In their defence though, I wa son a cruise that got stuck during covid and instead of traveling from Singapore, we were diverted to Perth, and when they announced the cruise was ending there and then, Seabourn took care of everyone who booked travel with them and got them home one way or another, and I'm sure it cost them $10000 one way each to do it. I had to reroute and paid $20k to get home. Always remember its usually cheaper to do on your own, whether a tour, flight, hotel etc, but when the S%&*T hits the fan, Seabourn was there to rescue those that booked with them vs the 50 of us who were left to find the airline's reservation desk or travel agent, so to many, the cost is surely worth it.
  15. Thank you all for your good wishes. I was reading a few threads on the “solo” forums where everyone felt free to do what they wanted when they wanted to, which is a bit funny, as I never felt my late wife held me back from exploring the world when I wanted to wonder off at any port. In any case, if I’m nice to the Maitre’d and everyone else, I’m sure I won’t have to eat alone in my room every night , life is too short for that. The ship is full and Dubai itinerary easy to take, so while I’m a bit nervous of Seabourn life going solo, it is Seabourn after all, I’m worrying about nothing. Happy sailing to all and thank you again.
