Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We are on an 11:25 and I am fine with that. We will walk off early, head to the train station and take that to the airport.
  2. You could take the National Express bus to Heathrow and then you are quite close to Windsor.
  3. I will sometimes pay for one 24 cycle of internet on the final day.
  4. There is now the Brightline Train that has a stop in downtown West Palm Beach to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.
  5. If you like your paddle I would bring it as the ship equipment was pretty poor.
  6. You are welcome - I found that for the exact reason you had.
  7. Were you able to find the other cruise on the "select a different cruise" option under the little person symbol at the top of the app? I am able to see all my cruises there. Hope that helps.
  8. We often book tours through individuals - each has specified a cancellation policy so perhaps reach out to the company and ask. Generally we have booked our spot and then had to pay by 48 hours before the tour. We have also really enjoyed " free" walking tours in many cities to get our bearings - but please tip the guide at the end of the tour the amount you see paid tours if you enjoyed the walk.
  9. Interesting conversation - we have sailed plenty (RCCI with kids and Celebrity for DH and me) so our first foray into this size ship is August on the Insignia. We did book prior to SM with a cruise only fare (our drink needs are minimal and tend to mostly explore on our own). At our "time in life" we will not sail enough on any one line to achieve status so that does not matter at this time. I am a bit sad that if we love this sailing with Oceania we will be hesitant to book again at the prices with SM. But for now looking forward to this sailing - we are sailing NYC to Iceland then flying to London (doing a short overnight at Windsor) then boarding this sailing back to the US and staying on for Bermuda leg.
  10. My young grandson usually gets a book. After down sizing to our retirement home we saw how little was truly important to us so really do not add much but I will buy a bit of local yarn if one appeals to me. My other purchase would be a good linen tea towel because I will use that everyday in my kitchen.
  11. We were happy to sail Solstice last year when she could not sail the Australia season so she came up to LA, waiting to go up to Alaska for the summer - not terribly exciting ports but a great way to spend two weeks in January. This year we did Navigator of the Seas - not a favorite but we took her as an inexpensive winter get away and enjoyed ourselves.
  12. DH renewed last month online - approved in a coup,'em days and new card in the mail 3 weeks later. Hope mi e goes as well later this year.
  13. We have also sailed Hubbard Glacier and it is spectacular. We are able to take the time to sail from Vancouver to Seward and then the return sail - hopefully spend time at Hubbard Glacier both ways as well as do a fjord and National Park sailing while in Seward. Also consider if a particular type of wildlife is of interest and choose your month for sailing accordingly.
  14. We travel very light (by choice) and pay to have laundry cleaned on board the ship. Limit shoes - for Alaska we take waterproof sneakers and another pair of shoes for dinner and around the ship. Then our plan is layers so that in cooler spots we can be warm but remove layers if the day is nice. Hiking pants out of rain repellent fabric work great and can easily be rinsed and hung to dry in the cabin. Our outer layer is rain coat with a fleece jacket underneath if needed. DH does bring a pair of hiking shorts and quick dry shirts for day wear, a couple polos, a couple long sleeve cotton shirts and a sport coat (wears on the plane) for dinner. I use compression bags for the fleece, gloves, hat. We pack in one 24" check bag, one 22" carry on and a personal bag each. For us (again our choice as I hate wrangling luggage) this has worked for warm weather as well as Iceland, Norway and Alaska. We plan to send out laundry every 4 to 5 days as well as hand wash some that can be worn again without a machine wash.
  15. Personally the southern cruise on Eclipse would be my choice as these are my favorite islands. If there is a lot of availability you might wait but we had to accept a guaranty 12 months out for an atypical sailing.
