Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Remember that kids show back in the 90's, Lamb Chop? I feel at this point when it comes to WiFi it is "The Song That Never Ends. It's an interesting study into human behavior, "my experience was ___, so everyone has ___." I have learned so much from @Jim_Iain and how he deals with the internet. The workarounds and the planning ahead. When it comes to WiFi on cruise ships one persons experience might be different from others for so many reasons. We all use the internet in different ways/wants, different locations of the world, different times of the day with different equipment. Ever do a speed test at home? In today's world it is hard to get a true reading at home because of how connected we are. Computers, tablets, phones, watches, streaming shows, connected appliances and so on. And who knows what software is updating when you do your speed test. Maybe we need to use the old adage on food, for the internet on ships. WiFi is 'so subjective'. Edited to add: I have never used the Princess Medallion, but when I was searching Princess for a cruise, I saw many people complaining on many levels on how frustrating it was.
  2. My wife and I did an Aqua room a couple of months ago and it was great. But we have also done inside rooms and that is what we have booked for our next cruise. We have to scale back our room to be able to afford our daughters wedding. We have never felt we were marginalized based on the room we were in. That said, if I or someone else pays extra (and in some cased 10x more) they should get extra service and amenities.
  3. On our Silhouette cruise this past January, you had to keep an eye out for any kids. On our 10 day (I understand 10 days limits a lot of kids) we saw two young girls with their parents and dad was an employee and a few teenagers. That was it. Great cruise by the way, I would cruise the Silhouette again in a heart beat.
  4. Great advice given, I would also suggest looking at trip reports to give you a better feel for the ship. Also look for videos that can give you the look and feel.
  5. As a person who has had food poisoning multiple times, I feel for you.
  6. I think I got the picture to work. Thank you @omahabob. @Gracie115 you reminded me of how anxious I was to eat in the MDR. I remember sitting down the first time and seeing all the plates and silverware and having no idea what to do. The assistant waiter saw my bulging eyes and came over and pointed to the silverware and gently said, "start from the outside and work your way in. Easy" Another wild thing was the wait staff. We were seated at a table of ten and the head waiter came to take our orders and with no note pad or anything. People were asking for special changes and I was amazed at how he was able to remember it all, of course we were not his only table. I can't remember where he was from, but he would walk up behind you and say, "And you Sir?" Then he would turn away from you as you gave your order. At first it was very strange, but then we had fun with it. Remember the crumb catchers? There was much more theater back then.
  7. It really was a different style of cruising then. I don't miss renting a tux or wearing a suit and tie though.
  8. I like to look for local artists and support them. In January we stopped in Trinidad and purchased a few items from a local artist. He asked for $15 and I told him I did not like that number, I will only take the items for $20. The smile on his face was well worth the extra $5.
  9. Perfect explanation hcat. We feel so fortunate to have Mercury be our be our first cruise. It was our honeymoon 10 years in the making and oh so worth the wait. Thanks again for your post. @doghog I hear you. I don't remember the actual passenger numbers, but when we went from the Mercury to our second cruise on Millennium Milly seemed huge.
  10. I was a radio announcer for many years and can tell you, when I made ANY mistake on air I was going to hear about for days.
  11. It was our first cruise @C-Dragons on the Mercury. I found two of our drink glasses from that cruise.
  12. Forgive me, I am trying to upload a picture and for some reason it won't take. IMG_4274(1).heic
