  1. Princess has done this for years. I have always gotten better pricing and or OBC when I have nothing booked compared to when I have cruises booked. It is targeted marketing.
  2. I have done both and preferred Totem Bight. I was bored at Saxman. We had an awful guide. I liked that Totem Bight is on the water.
  3. I broke my wrist on a recent trip. After waiting overnight in an ER with out seeing a doctor until the morning, I had already decided I wanted to go home for surgery. The doctor provided pictures of X-rays (which he took with my phone). He wrote up a note saying which bone I broke, that I needed surgery and that due to not being a local, he recommended I return home for surgery where I could follow up with my own doctors and follow up care. This was important - he needed to indicate that I was "fit to fly". The negative in this is that he put me in a cast. After I was released, I called insurance and they would not let me fly with a cast. So I had to return and have the cast cut. I submitted all the paperwork to the insurance company in order for them to arrange flights home (with a medical escort). I did not have to pay up front for my medical care (hospital took a picture of my passport). Once I got home, I got a copy of the charges and submitted them. I did not use the forms from the insurance company. I had a claim with Allianz (land portion) and Aon (cruise portion). Both took the the doctor's note and did not require their form to be filled out. Previously I used their form when I cancelled a trip before the vacation.
  4. I have done all the above in Skagway (though not a Jeep but a car from Avis). Train RT, Train and Van combo, renting a car, etc.... For the first time, I do like the Chilkoot combo tour because the train is historic and the views are different than when taking the road. Chilkoot does a great job. After saying that - the car/jeep option is great if you want to go at your own pace. The area is so gorgeous. I think you will have fun with Chilkoot or if you go on your own.
  5. I believe it also includes multiple courses. Some have indicated it is more than they can eat.
  6. When I booked (independently) with Alaska RR - they assigned my seat.
  7. Park Rangers come onboard all ships that stop in Glacier Bay. It is a requirement of the National Park Service. They are amazing.
  8. Yea - Alaska is huge and so many areas look so different from other areas. I would love to have a car and spend 1-2 months driving around. I treasure the excursions I have done in cruise ports - some rank as some of my favorite. Cruise ports and those areas accessible via land are both worthy of visiting! 🙂
  9. It is easy to get out of the port area and avoid the stores. I actually like the ports (and I am not a shopper).
  10. It is very different. I think many don't recognize this until on the cruise. I never thought I would like Alaska. Now, I would pick Alaska over Caribbean any day.
  11. I think the book Alaska Cruise Companion by Rachel Cartwright - it is also good - you can buy this on the ship.
  12. I would rule out NCL as they dock in Ketchikan at Ward Cove which is not in downtown Ketchikan. I have done Sapphire several times in Alaska and like the ship. I have not been on Noordam but people like the ship and HAL. I just compared itinerary between HAL and Princess and they are pretty close. I usually say let this make the decision but honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either. They both have great itineraries.
  13. You can upgrade to a 4 device package. The only reason I would want a 2nd device is due to 2 factor authentication on some of my items.
  14. You are only paying for (1) person for WIFI. Not 2. You can switch devices. You just can't use both at the same time.
