Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Long time NCL cruiser but booked our first RCL cruise going to Alaska in June. All of the "normal" booking times were gone because we booked late, so we got "my time" dining. But then when making reservations, it was all 7 or 7:30pm or later. Is that normal, or something that will be able to be changed once on the ship? I'm used to just walking up to a restaurant and being seated on NCL, so the specific times are a little odd for me. Coming from the east coast, so that's like eating at 10pm for us. I was hoping that My Time meant... you know... whatever time I wanted to go.
  2. Has anyone here used SEA Spot Saver? It looks basically like a virtual queue for security at the airport where you pick a time then skip the line for security. Is it that easy? Our flight out is on a Friday night. Should this save us time, or isn't the airport too busy at that time? TIA.
  3. This is disappointing to hear. We just booked our first cruise on RCL for a trip to Alaska in June. We've cruised many times on NCL and we're sort of used to just walking up to a restaurant and being seated. The only set time dining available is 8pm. We're from the east coast, so I prefer not to eat at what is essentially midnight for us. We got the My Time dining, but the earliest reservations available are 7:15-7:30. So what I'm understanding here is that either we eat late or it's the buffet every night? Please let me know if I'm missing something here.
  4. Some great info in this thread. Answered a lot of my questions before I asked them. I just booked Ovation of the Seas for June. Our first non-NCL cruise. It'll be my family of four. I've never been to Seattle before, so we plan on coming in 3 days ahead of time to do some sightseeing and catch a Mariners game. Is everything in Seattle easily rail accessible, or should I get a rental car? And if I should rent a car, is there a place near pier 91 to return the car that would have a shuttle to the port? Don't really want to have to backtrack to the airport. It's looking like the Pike Place Market area is the best central location for a hotel? LMK if that's not correct. Thanks!
  5. I have looked in to this. It's $6447 for a guarantee balcony for four. To get both a balcony and interior room where we choose the location, it would be $10123.
  6. I was looking at the combo tour that you posted above. On the day we're going, we dock too late to get the early tour, and the later one only has two spots available for our family of four. I'm sure that the cruise line will offer their own similar excursion, but this one seemed to get good reviews.
  7. I saw him back in the 90s at a little club. Great show. Looks like he went out the way he lived. RIP.
  8. It is annoying, and difficult to do mock bookings this way. I've started looking at NCL to see better details about which ones I'm interested in, then going to expedia to do the pricing so I see the accurate amount.
  9. Sounds like a great excursion, but Chilkoot is sold out on the day we will be in Skagway. Any other operators do a similar thing with the train and bus?
  10. Hoping someone can help me out with this, first time looking at RCCL, regular NCL cruiser. We're thinking of doing an Alaskan cruise in June on either the Quantum or Ovation of the seas. From what I understand, these ships are the same. On NCL, when booking a room with 4 people, the couch converts to a bed, and a second bed pulls down above it from the ceiling to make bunk beds for the kids. Is this the same setup here? I've searched and not found any pictures of a room made up for four people. I don't want to make my kids sleep in the same bed if it's a pullout. We'll probably do a balcony room, but may do an oceanview depending on pricing. Also, yes I know I can get adjoining rooms and not have to room with the kids. That's not in the budget. TIA.
  11. I'm looking at a couple different cruises that we'd go on with our kids. Previously when sailing with the four of us we've always been on the -away class ships that have the pull-down bunk bed. This works well for us because our kids are teens and don't want to sleep in the same bed. I saw that on the newer ships that this isn't an option, the couch pulls out to a double bed. Are there any of the older ships (Jewel, Pearl, etc) that have the pull-down single beds, or do we need to stick with the -away ships? I know that I can get adjoining rooms, but since we're really only in there to sleep and shower that seems like a waste.
