Cool Cruiser (2/15)
-
We were upgraded to a veranda state room under the bridge on Insignia many years ago. We didn’t find it noisy at all. The worst thing was the movement on the Bay of Biscay, only time in 32 cruises that I’ve ever been seasick, thankfully it only lasted a few hours! One thing that did happen that was quite amusing, I received a phone call from the bridge politely informing me that I needed to close the curtain as the light from the cabin was affecting visibility from the Bridge! There is actually a sign in the room asking to close the curtains on an evening if you have lights on. It was toe curlingly embarrassing!!😂

I agree, just want to know that it's cancelled so I can make a new booking. Hate this hanging about waiting.

Thank you for your quick reply, much appreciated. I have realised it's the tour that includes the Angelito trail hike as well (there are two, one with and one without) I've done a little research and I think it will be fine. the tours were booked before I had the accident and the alternative one which doesn't do the hike, is fully booked. I could inquire onboard but I think I will just go for it ...and hope for the best!! Worst case scenario, I'll take in a scenic view sitting on a rock until they return! 🙂 I very much enjoyed your trip report btw, very informative!

Hi, can I ask how strenuous is the walk, as in how many hours and is it over steep gradients? I am normally very fit and healthy but I had a leg injury about three months ago and although I'd say I'm almost back to full recovery, I'm just wondering if this excursion will be for me.

Thank you for keeping us informed with what is happening onboard. I wish you safe onward travels.

Silver Moon: Late Dec., Jan. Sailing Challenges/Questions??
sammyboots replied to TLCOhio's topic in Silversea
I think it has been mentioned about Silver Moon swapping itineraries with one of the other ships but one of the issues I could see would be, what does the Silver Moon do for the next four months until the weather improves in the Med? I’m not sure what itineraries would be attractive in that region until later April? -
Silver Moon: Late Dec., Jan. Sailing Challenges/Questions??
sammyboots replied to TLCOhio's topic in Silversea
A little research by my other half I’ve added below! As a future cruiser on Silver Moon I have been following with interest the progresss over the last fortnight. It now appears likely that Silver Moon will be repositioning Athens to Mumbai around the Cape. A little bit of research I have done might shed some light on the logistical issues surrounding Silver Moon repositioning . Assuming a 1200 departure 16 Jan and an early morning arrival 0200 on 11 February in Mumbai, that is 25 days, 10 hours or 610 Hours (including time zone changes) Usings Ports.com website it calculates the Sea route · Port of Pereaus to Walvis Bay, Namibia: 6928 nautical miles. (A midpoint stop) and Walvis Bay, Namibia: Port of Mumbai, India 6322 nautical miles. Total distance 13250 13250nm in 610 hours requires an average speed of 21.7kts. Fincantieri the shipbuilder website quotes a service speed of 17 Kts with a max speed of abt. 21.0 kts. Therefore, it will be a real challenge to get to Mumbai for the cruise to Singapore departing even without additional stops for fuel. At an average 17kts it would take 32 days. These non expert calculations demonstrate the considerable challenges for Silversea staff. There will doubtless be many other factors needed to be considered but a little patience will be required for an achievable plan to be agreed with all agencies before they can inform guests. -
Guarantee bookings , any experience with SS overbooking?
sammyboots replied to bobolz's topic in Silversea
I’d go ahead and book your excursions, restaurant reservations etc. I can’t see them cancelling your trip due to a lack of a cabin, if they’ve taken a deposit, I’m pretty sure you’ll be on that cruise, there are always cancellations. -

We booked a lowest cost guarantee and just received a three category upgrade to a superior balcony. We are two weeks away from our sailing and the cruise has been waitlisted in all categories so we were surprised to get a higher allocation. -

Thank you Spinnaker2, we've decided to go with dinner and completed the form yesterday, just waiting to hear back now, fingers crossed! -

Thank you Sea Bright, I think dinner sounds the best option in that case. -

Thank you! It’s pretty much a family profession… both sons are pilots, their Dad is a pilot and his Dad was also a pilot. Time for some different careers for the next generation I think! 😂 -

11pm departure. -
My husband and I are planning to request as to the availabity of having our son join us as a guest for a few hours on embarkation day. He is a pilot for BA and will be flying us out to Barbados for our upcoming cruise and we thought it would be fun to have him join us on the Silver Dawn for a visit. My query is, with a boarding time from 2pm, do we request for him to join us for lunch or dinner? Can anyone let us know what the lunch options are please or when the restaurants close for lunch? We are new to SS so would appreciate anyone that can enlighten us. Many thanks.
