Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Changes I would make are: 1. Service in buffet would be cafeteria style where you hold your plate and staff serves the food. After close to 70 cruises, I have regularly witnessed the unhygienic habits of a significant number of my fellow passengers and I would think that given recent events, it is time. 2. Teach the staff to read their audience. A while back, probably pre-covid, we were on a ship and went to Skywalkers after dinner for libation and dance. A look at the crowd would have revealed that 80% or more were Medicare eligible. Noone was on the dance floor. The DJ was playing loud electronic tunes. I asked if he had any Motown, Stones or Doobie Bros. He played "I Heard it through the Grapevine" and "Mustang Sally". The dance floor quickly filled up. He was unable to detect the reason and went back to evangelizing his electronic sounds. The dance floor emptied and many left.
  2. I've been retired for 8 years now and while my DW of 48 years may differ, I occasionally consider myself full-grown.
  3. Got some air tag bracelets from Amazon. They were cheap and work great.
  4. I've experienced 3 out of nine, recently. Those related to bodily functions and sounds. Probably the most egregious event was a couple who brought their dog into the MDR in a stroller and sat at a table very near ours. At first, I thought they were bringing in a newborn or infant because of their demeanor. A bark soon dispelled that assumption as did a semi-regular yipping. The proud couple encouraged others including waitstaff to interact with their precious bundle. We quickly decided to try and ignore them with some success. We were glad that the waitstaff who did physically interact their dog was not serving our food. Cheers.
  5. We have about 25 Princess cruises. I have experienced this in the past and now go through a TA. In the past, when I got someone who was not helpful, I would say goodbye and call again. It is becoming harder to accomplish this. I agree. Very frustrating.
  6. Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm trying to talk my DW into this cruise. She is afraid that she will not like that many sea days. We've done close to 70 cruises but never had more than 3 sea days in a row. Any thoughts are appreciated. Cheers.
  7. FWIW. Last August, on the Ruby, we had a problem with our TA's gifted gratuities. On board guest services were professional and friendly. They went above and beyond, calling my TA to help with the eventual resolution of my problem. Cheers
  8. Hi. We've cruised to Alaska 4 times on Princess and are going again this June. Here are some recommendations. 1. Read James Michener's book Alaska. We've read it before our last 2 cruises. It allows for a much greater appreciation for what you will see. 2. Ketchikan. We've done the Totem Park and just explored on our own. Enjoyed both. 3. Juneau. Mendenhall Glacier and Mt. Robert's tram is highly recommended as is the river rafting excursion. The crab nachos at the top of the tram is worth the trip. Not impressed with Red Dog last August. A tourist trap. The museum is worth a visit, if that interests you. 4. Skagway. The train is magic. We've done the city tour and will do it again. Have a wonderful cruise. Cheers
  9. We found ourselves in a similar situation last year. We were to be without our kids, their spouses and our grandkids at Thanksgiving. So, we went on a cruise. We've done about 65 cruises, mostly on Princess. This time, we chose a HAL California Coastal out of San Diego, our home port. It was a full ship. There were a lot of children and young adults. They were mostly well-behaved. A lot of noise and energy by the pools. There was always a place to be found that afforded peace and quiet. The food was very good. They offered a very good traditional turkey dinner with all the sides. We enjoy the bands in the BB King Lounge. Some of their shows and other entertainment were very good. We'd do it again. Cheers.
  10. Reminds me of the old joke, "Other than that, How'd you like the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"
  11. I just looked at the old Shareholder Benefit Request Form. It states, "Applications to receive this benefit must be made no later than 14 days prior to the cruise departure date." You might want to call Princess or your TA. It may be too late.
  12. I used Stockperks last week and had the OBC on my acct in a day. I received a couple of quick responses saying my application and been accepted and a second one saying it had the correct info and was being submitted. Shortly thereafter, I received a confirming communication with the OBC on my shipboard acct. Perhaps he should resubmit or contact Stockperks? Good luck and Cheers
