Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Contacted my TA today. Our cruise April 1-13, 2025 will disembark and embark from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal and not Yokohama. The Kyoto stop is not known at this time . Oceania claims it is too early to know. I guess both our guide and we will need to be flexible.we also need to wait for the “free” hotel choice to be announced. Some ship excursions are already full. Hopefully this will all work out.
  2. I know I should call Oceania, but it’s Sunday. Question where the Riviera docks in Tokyo and Kobe(Kyoto). Cruise mapper says Tokyo and not Yokohama. We are booked next April. Another port is (Kobe-Kyoto). Cruise mapper says Kobe -Osaka. We overnight there. We want to take a private tour on the first day since we overnight. The second day since we sail at 4 pm, we are taking a ship tour of Osaka. Any recommendations are appreciated.

    TAP strike

We have reservations on TAP from Orly (Paris) to Lisbon on June 13. We need to get to Lisbon to pick up our cruise the next day. I did buy refundable tickets if that helps. How worried should we be about this strike? Train is out as there are several train changes as well as a long time. We will be starting out from Bayeux, France. I don’t know of other airports other than CDG that we could use. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  4. We were on the Riviera back in 2021 when the cruise lines were starting back up. Our original embarkation port was Monte Carlo. Because of Covid the port was changed to Marseille. We had booked our own air to Nice. Oceania provided our transport from the Nice airport to Marseille. Many did change their flights to Marseille and i think Oceania paid for change fees. I am not totally sure about the latter as we did not use it.
  5. Thank you for the responses. My original idea was CDG and Air France. CDG always gives us issues but that was in connecting. I am trying to juggle time frames to give us wiggle room to make the flight. I just worry about possible strikes. I will let this mull a few days before I book. Again, thank you. I can always get reliable answers here.
  6. We need to fly from Honfleur to Lisbon on June 13. We are leaving a Road Scholar tour one day early to be in Lisbon one day prior to our Oceania cruise. I have found flights on TAP from Orly to Lisbon that are reasonable and fit the times. How is this airline? Should we book afternoon flight as opposed to early evening in case we get bumped or something else might happen. We world have a car service take us from Honfleur to Orly. We will have luggage: two checked luggage and two carryons plus a CPAP machine. I can try to eliminate one carryon but I don’t think I can consolidate any further. Are we able to use our United miles as TAP is part of Star Alliance? Thank you for any assistance. I did try to search without much success and the TAP website.
  7. We are leaving a Road Scholar land trip early. We will get a car service from Bayeux to CDG in time to board a flight to LIS the same day. We are meeting up with an Oceania cruise. The date is June 13, 2024. We are going to Mont St. Michel the day before. Would it be easier to get a car service from there instead of Bayeux? From my searches Air France seems to be the best option. Easy Jet and Ryanair are cheaper but I know there are lots of fees and we will have luggage. I know this is prime time so rates will be high. Train or bus would take us 12 hours plus who knows how many transfers. Am I correct that Air France is our best option? We will each have a checked bag plus a carryon. My husband will have his CPAP also. Thanks to all who respond.
  8. On our Vista Cruise this past August around the British Isles we had fo tender four times and would have been five but we were unable to tender in Stornoway. All information from Oceania had us docking. Most of those ports were tender only. It does make a difference in having this knowledge ahead of time. Someone with mobility concerns would be stuck on the ship in those ports. Again, communication is key.
  9. Good to know. Last time a few years ago they had kiosks that everyone had to use. You are probably right about waiting for luggage! Thanks.
  10. Finally settled on flights that we can live with. Leaving GSP to Detroit to CDG. Only thing bad is the 8 hours between flights but tighter connections were $1300 more. We will endure it. Coming home is much better CDG to Detroit to GSP. We have 1 hour 40 minutes before our flight to GSP. Hopefully that is enough time to go through immigration and passport control. We have Global Entry but I don’t think Detroit has that. If we miss the flight at least we’re in the US. Thanks for all suggestions. We did get Premium Select. Price for both of us together was around 5K. We are satisfied.
  11. Still looking at options. My prices were per person! Flying to Toronto from GSP won’t work. We would need to fly from Charlotte. But, I checked AF from JFK. Prices are much better but flying to JFK is difficult from GSP as all Delta flights to NYC go to LGA. Not easy getting over to JFK. We would need to fly to Atlanta and then JFK. We may just have to bite the bullet on this one. Having two separate tickets worries me that something could get messed up. i am not sure why RS told us to wait to book air. March is final payment. We would still need to come home from the cruise so would need the return flight from Paris.
  12. I am looking at flights to CDG round trip from GSP preferably but could consider Charlotte or Atlanta. We have miles with Delta and United but not nearly enough. We would like Premium Select as we have difficulty dealing with economy seats on overnight flights. We are looking at flights on June 5(could be June 4) with a return on June 25, 2024. We will be ending a cruise in LeHavre the day before so need to get to Paris. I realize it is the 80th anniversary of DDay so expect rates to be high. I found a Delta flight connecting in ATL on Air France on June 5 for around 3K but when I put in the return flight it jumps to 3450. I need to avoid JFK as the flights to GSP go from LGA. Too complicated that way with luggage. United’s Premium Economy is through ORD. I know to avoid Newark. Price is confusing but around the same as Delta. I did look at ITA Matrix. Delta comes out better. DH thinks we should wait but I am not sure. The prices are down some from last I checked a month ago. I’m afraid they will go back up or we could not get seats together. I am confused about making changes. Would we just have change fees? The price for non refundable jumps up the price quite a bit. The uncertainty is with our Road Scholar trip in Paris before the cruise. RS says not to make air reservations until March of next year. That scares me that we would end up with ridiculous connections. Appreciate any help and hope I have given enough details. Thank you to all.
  13. Thank you to Zach. We were upgraded to a runway view room at the Renaissance. Very nice. We opted to buy the HOPPA tickets onboard. Unfortunately we did not have the correct change and neither did the drier. We didn’t lose too much though. It was a little confusing where to stand for the bus. Fortunately there were other passengers that helped us figure it out.
  14. In regards to masks, we are wearing ours and have seen some others. Elevators are very crowded at times. One just never knows.
  15. I will keep monitoring these flights. And, thank you for the heads up about winter schedules. This is almost a full time job trying to keep up with changes!
