bringing wine from US into Canada

We're flying into Seattle and taking a rental car to Vancouver for our Alaska cruise in July. We can take wine on board (HAL) and wonder about the feasibility of bringing it across the border. Will duty be assessed by Canadian customs? If so, how much? Thanks!

The limits in Canada are 2 bottles of 750ml per person over the age of 19 for BC. (18 in some provinces, 19 in others). That's 2 normal bottles per person or one magnum per person. That's our duty-free limit. It isn't staying in Canada, it's leaving with you.

The duty you would have to pay for wine over the 2 bottle limit is based on quantity not the value of the wine.

When I checked last year it was approx $14CDN for each litre (approx 32oz.).

We discovered this years ago when we found a great inexpensive wine in the US and figured that if the wine only cost $10 a bottle how much could the duty be??... Not such a good deal in the end.

When you cross the border by car chances are very high that they will ask if you have any alcohol or tobacco.
