Thomson Spirit Oceans Spa & Beauty/Hair Salon current prices

Top Tip! :D

Ladies if you are having your hair done at the hair salon for Captain's Cocktail Party then take your own sparkly clips/combs to decorate your hair.

If you have a 'hair up' style (£28) done there they do use plain (hidden) kirby grips to pin your hair at no extra cost but they also have racks of beautiful decorative ones on sale in the salon which are lovely but oh boy they are very very  expensive  eg £5 each for a really small kirby grip type of pin with diamonte/pearl flower head (the head was just 4mm across) - or tiny diamonte butterfly clip (teeny tiny like just 3mm across and cheap plastic) £4 each.

The stylist will go ahead and put in about 5 of them while enthusing about how great it looks and then add it all to the bill!

Goodness knows what the larger ones cost  I was still picking myself up off the floor after hearing what the tiny ones cost! There were no prices on them and I'm half sure she just plucked an amount out of the air - if the tiny ones were a fiver each then the large barette slides must cost a fortune.

Anyway these are the sort of hair clips you can get in Primark for £1 for a whole pack of them so buy some there and take with you.

Or Claire's Accessories or eBay...

I had 4 of the £5 ones in my hair as it looked so lovely but it annoyed me that I could have brought the same type of thing from home with me and saved £20! So the hair up cost £48 not £28 and two sparkly clips fell out and were lost during all that cocktail drinking and partying anyway haha ;)

Hiya Granny

This is quite helpful - as although I am not sailing on the spirit until October - I always have my hair put-up at least once, as have such long and thick hair - drives me mad!

Its interesting as I have had this done on the Destiny - booked there to sail in August - and would like to see the current price list for this to be done, as before I think it was £30-35, but the clips were much cheaper. I have bought many of different kind of clips in the past from ebay - and kept my ones from the Destiny - so they will definately be going with me

Thank you for this information - very helpful

Hi Bubbles

The more I think about it the more I reckon the girl made up the prices for the hair accessories on the spot as her reaction was that she didn't expect me to ask the price (sorry but I aint that rich hahaha) and the ones that were subsequently offered to me at £4 each after I had balked at the cost of the £5 ones, were actually much better value going by quality and quantity... work that out..

So if the tiny grip clips cost a fiver each then the big combs, going on the same cost relating to quality and size and amount of decoration would have had to be well over £40+ each which is crazy. Perhaps the bigger ones were better value. I'd be interested if anyone knows.

I paid for the 4 small ones as I hadn't brought any with me and they really did add the extra touch to my hair - but I am forewarned and forearmed for next time :D and hope that this posting helps save other ladies some £££'s

By the way, the girl who does the hair, Marina, is very good and very fast and the British girl who did my make up was simply amazing - I was surprised how well she transformed me - indeed the before and after pictures justify the spend!

Just noticed (I have bad eyes sitting in front of computer so long :D)

The hair up was actually £25 and the make-up was £28

But I did not pay that - I got a 15% discount for booking while in port or something like that. I do reckon if they aren't busy you could haggle prices too...

Yes, I must admit that they are very nice - especially for the formal nights - I bought alot of mine previously off of ebay (big clips and slides etc) and were very cheaper - even including delivery as came from abroad. I bought some nice red and white style rose clips with diamantes around the outside - think they were about £2.00 each.

Ah, will bear that in mind and try and ask her to do mine - must admit - never had my make-up done before - might give that one a go sometime!

The make up girl had some decent quality new looking make up in her kit - including some fabulous glitter eye liners and shadows in all colours, she painted a thin line of silver glitter along the edge of my eyelids near the lashes and it looked really fantastic - it might sound extreme to some but this isn't day time make-up remember, it was for the cocktail party and I had my hair up and long chiffon dress on with sparkly bag and shoes - I am a very young granny - nothing like Sylvester and Tweety's Granny hahaha

The glittery eyes really went the diamonte necklace and earrings (another eBay bargain!) and those midget clips (not such a bargain...)

You are brave going solo. I would go alone if I knew there'd be other ladies there to chat to but the single's price puts me off

Ah well, its not the extreme to me (make-up wise) as this is what I do when i get let out ;) think it does look very nice - im a very glittery person - think its the girl in me that has just got let out - used to be a right tom-boy!!!

Well, have been on holidays on my own on a few occassions - never on a cruise on my own  but now i feel nervous about it, haha.

Oh well - you will probably find me propped up in either the sky bar, or the casion, lol :D

You sound a lot of fun bubbles and I can tell you'll have a great time on your cruise going solo as with your fun personality people will be drawn to you so you wont be left sitting with no one to chat and laugh with.

I've been on many a hol on my own abroad as I love sightseeing and grandadpops' idea of a hol is sitting down doing as little as possible - well he does do a physical job bless him :D

Yes, if I'd been on the cruise last week as a solo it would have be fine as I'd just chat to people - you can tell can't you hahahah - apart from maybe the formal restaurant at dinner it wouldn't be too awkward really - there's plenty to do after all isn't there... erm... napkin folding class anyone? :) and there's always the waiters to chat up ;)

hehe, whatever gives you that impression  well I do tend to talk alot, especially after I have had a few to drink but then the no nonsence conversations come out - surprise people are still talking to me then, lol

Well, chatting up the waiters seems like a good idea to me, although I do apparently seem to manage that without trying - even on the last day at lunch-time a waiter took a shine to me - got his email etc and keep in touch - as for the Casino staff - now thats another matter, haha ;)
