Best way to see Dublin

Recommended Posts

Take a taxi to Trinity Colege, 90% of the sights are within walking distance of there.

Perfect- got the exact same advice from BIL and SIL, who lived there for 5 years.

"Best"? Well, for us, it might be in the back of a limo, sipping champagne. But we also like walking, so we will follow Kirk's (and my BIL and SIL) advice and taxi to Trinity College. We have done Ho-Ho buses in various cities, they work well. Private drivers are frequently the most efficient way to see a city and gain lots of knowledge in a short time, and are very fun. But they are also frequently the most expensive, unless your group is a little larger- say bigger than 2 for sure.

But, overall, "best" is in the eye of the beholder, based upon that person's interests, budget, limitations and other considerations.

If you only wish to see Dublin, and not venture into the Wicklow countryside say, then take the HoHo bus or, as Kirk suggests, a taxi to Trinity College and explore the city on foot. Most of the sights mentioned in this forum, the Book of Kells, National Museum, National Gallery, Dublin Castle (containing the Chester Beatty Library), and the two cathedrals, are within 10 minutes walking distance of Trinity College. The Guinness Storehouse is 20-25 minutes by foot or you could take the number 123 bus.

Do you know how much the taxi fare is from the port to Trinity College? And can they accomodate 4 people?

Yes, Dublin taxis will take four people, one in the front and three in the rear. There are also larger minivan taxis that hold more passengers, but I don't know how many of these are at the cruise terminal.

I would estimate the fare to Trinity College to be around €10-12.
