Any guesses on what and when the new vifp will be?

Hard to tell if, or when they'll change anything in the VIFP, but from what I've read, any change will effect only the very early members of the club. They're talking about changing the "colors" for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sailing, to encourage the very new Carnival cruisers, so for most of us, it won't make a hill of beans difference. I personally, would like to see another tier above "Diamond", at the 400 day level, or even 500. It's getting to the point where there are a LOT of "Diamond" members aboard,,,especially on the BIG ships.

My guess is that you'll see a few more things added to red and gold (platinum and diamond will end up with those same things as well). Things likes discounts or buy one, get one offers.

This sounds likely; there are still some discounts that would be appreciated, as are given on other lines.

There are many more "new" Diamonds now. And that is not surprising.

I would like to see a layer between platinum and diamond. I am almost platinum with 75 days. Getting to diamond at 200 days seems like a long time to stay at one level.

Totally agree with you. I have 21 CCL cruises (all 7 days - no "short" cruises) and 149 sea days. It will take me another 7 or 8 cruises or so to reach Diamond - which equals 28/29 CCL cruises - 4 or 5 more than I would have needed under the (now very) old Diamond standards. Which is why I am "wandering" over to NCL. Though I do not cruise for the perks, I am almost platinum there, after only a few cruises.

If they aren't going to offer another level between Platinum and Diamond - I'd like them to give the ability to "earn" additional points. Booking a suite...booking early, etc to help get to that next level!

OP ~ it literally took YEARS for the current system to be rolled out. I have no reason to believe that there will be anything quickly this time either! But it's fun to kick around ideas while we wait. ;)

I'm Platinum and I can't wait to make Diamond and get the one time only specialty restaurant. haha JK They need to bolster the program as it $ucks compared to Royal. I'm also trying other lines as the CCL perks don't make it worth while. Booked/sailed five cruises this past year away from CCL because of the cutbacks and lack of loyalty program benefits. It will likely take awhile to roll out but when it does will be absolutely 'BRILLIANT'.

I agree that is a very long time between platinum and diamond. I've been platinum for 8 years, and have taken 22 Carnival cruises since becoming platinum, and I'm still 35 sea days away from diamond.

I have been Platinum since it became available. With my 29th cruise booked, most being 7 days, I am still Platinum.

My husband and I are Platinum on Carnival and have sailed over 20 cruises since the year 2000. We have seen Carnival remove or change how they cruise and not so much for the better. They have made their cruises less formal, dress codes are never enforced . Captain's party is now a meet and greet by the casino bar, no more formal midnight special buffet, and past guest party is for platinum and diamond only. The bowl of goodies in the bathroom no longer offered . They now give a bottle of water. The free drink offer from casino no longer given or free enter in the slot contest without a buy one get one.Sometimes it's the little things that make a cruise more fun. We still love Carnival but miss some of the old ways.Oh almost forgot if you are a platinum or diamond and have others in your party that aren't we were told that they we not aloud to get on the ship with us but had to wait . This is the first time we ever had a problem since we don't sit in vip room but outside in the open room. Even heard conversation between two employees that they would be watching and making sure are son and grandson were traveling with us.We have also cruise Royal Carribean and Holland America, beautiful ships excellent service.

We are Platinum, too; however, I understand why they can't let everyone traveling with a platinum member board early with them. As more and more Cruisers became Platinum and Diamond, it became a logistics problem. Anyone in your cabin and minor children in another cabin can board with you. That seems reasonable to me. I would not expect our 3 kids, their spouses, and my 4 grandchildren to be able to board with us.

What about Celebrity's point system where you earn so many points depending on the cabin you book

I agree. There have been people that have reached Platinum status for taking ten three day cruises in an inside cabin on the lowest decks. We've cruised Carnival ten, seven day cruises in a balcony cabin on the Panorama deck and still aren't Platinum. We gave Carnival a lot more money than those that reached it with the cheaper cabins.

I turn platinum in November. Better not take it away I will be upset. [emoji35]

We take 7 and 8 day cruises in 4j cabins. Love them. Yes they are classified as inside but love the handicapped features it offers. Much larger and has a big window.

Although my DW is Platinum (grandmothered in?), I'm still Gold. I do think it's a wise business decision for all cruise lines to offer some recognition in the form of perks to repeat cruisers. It helps to establish their brand and possibly encourage others to continue cruising on that particular line. But I am a bit appalled by the sense of "entitlement" being exhibited on this thread and others by platinum and diamond cruisers. It's a perk folks. Granted by the cruise line. Cruise lines giveth and cruise lines taketh away. Look at the changes airlines go through annually, if not more frequently on the perks they offer for frequent flyer miles. Very difficult to get an upgrade to first class anymore. Takes more to earn "free" flights. Less mileage per flight. And yes frequent flyers piss and groan about it, yet they still fly. People who try to "game" the mileage often get gobsmacked when changes occur. So book a cruise for the cruise. Book a ship for the ship. Book as frequently as you can afford. And accept the perks offered as offered, but quit barking for more. and let the rest of us hoi-polloi have some peace and quiet to enjoy our cruises.

That is why they made the change sea days rather than number of cruises. Of course, they had to grandfather all of the current platinums in at the time the changes were made. That's just the way it goes. And people may have to be grandfathered is if changes are made in the future.

While I understand this frustration (I was in your camp - it was my 13th cruise, all in balconies that made me Platinum as most were 7 days with a few shorties thrown in - plus they changed the program I was about on cruise 8), the problem with this analysis is flawed. Just because someone cruises in a inside on a lower deck does not equate to the money actually spent on the cruise. I am sure there are people in insides that spend FAR more money that we do because we don't usually buy Cheers, gamble, play bingo, use the spa or book shore excursions through Carnival. For a 7 days cruise for 4 people (2 cabins -one balcony and one inside), sometimes my on board spending is less than $750. I have read of plenty of people on here that spent over $1000 just in alcohol alone for 2 people.

For this reason, even though I will always have a balcony, and depending on the ship, a suite, and would love to get more perks because of it, I don't think it is fair indicator. While I didn't like the switch to number of sea days, it is the most neutral loyalty indicator.

Yes, so true, under the 'old' loyalty system. We cruised the Med with a couple that did just that (they lived close to a port and could drive there) - they took 10 cruises of 3-4 days each, the cheapest way possible in inside cabins, but hit the 10 cruise limit to be platinum on that cruise. While we hit day 73 while on the Med cruise, always staying in balcony or higher level of cabin, but we were still only "Gold" with NO perks (they had free laundry etc) and having spent so much more $$ with CCL to get to where we were than our friends.....it was a killer to us.

It is more fair now using 'sea days'....but could still use some 'tweaking' to even out the playing field even better.....like factoring into the system $$ spent as well....so the guy who stays in GS and pays 4-5 times more than the pax in inside cabins gets more 'credit' etc.

We, too, are for a level between Platinum and Diamond....not sure we will ever reach Diamond on CCL. We have been venturing to other lines as well, where itineraries and perks are far better!
