what has the cruise line done for you when you have missed a port due to engine problems?

The cruise line is not required to do anything. Your passage contract clearly states that ports may be deleted, changed or added for any reason or no reason at all, without compensation.

Most cruise lines will offer a token credit to your onboard account just to shut you up. Some might even offer a small discount on a future cruise.
