  1. Nha Trang is actually one of my favorite cities in viet nam...i once spent a week there. For a nice beach day just go to the Nha Trang sailing club, a great spot right on the beach open to all.
  2. Some of the best cruises I have ever had were on Volendam and Zaandam. For my taste the perfect size ships with real LP deck for walking, sitting. Great crews and some wonderful itineraries.
  3. In other words the office of the president does not care. It would certainly make sense for the safety as well as convenience of all guests if they would take a stand and paint a few arrows with the "suggested" walking direction. Then again we all know that even on ships with NO JOGGING as well as directional arrows that there are always a few "special people" who are either illiterate, ignorant or just "special" and rules don't apply to them. I also know that the crew does not want to have the anger directed at them when they try (if they do) to enforce the rules. Jo
  4. 3.5 miles a day won't even burn off the calories from a few cookies...but better than nothing.
  5. It means u will get a category BC or BETTER (chance of upgrade to a higher category) and that the actual cabin number will be assigned to you by the cruise line.
  6. Just flew into hawaii last week...did not see anyone being temp checked at all....however u do need to have negative covid test within 72 hours prior to arrival from trusted hawaii partner and upload test results to hawaii gov website....they then read a barcode on your phone and if all in order no problem....line was fairly long but once to front it took less than a minute to read phone scan, check a pic id and on the way
  7. my brother was on the Zaandam out of buenos aires ...he said all were confined to their rooms for over two weeks and food (good selections he said) were delivered three times a day with tray left outside door and a knock to let you know.....clean sheets and towels also were left....NOBODY entered their room and they were not allowed to leave (except once or so where they were allowed to get fresh air in a very controlled isolated manner as they did not have a balcony)....described it as sort of a luxury prison with great food and comfortable room but can't leave....said they were fortunate to
  8. i just did the NAAT one for hawaii two days ago...pretty easy process as they transmit bar code to your phone and when u arrive in hawaii they just scan your phone to see result and if negative you are in with no quarantine...i do think testing is getting better and better and will be a big part of cruising and other activities over coming months...
  9. yes correct but it does seem that they are working very hard to get more accurate testing so hopefully that will help....i just want to go cruising again soon....

  11. https://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Viking-says-shipboard-lab-can-test-all-pax-and-crew-for-Covid If every single person on the ship is tested every single day and anyone who tests positive is immediately quarantined in a special infirmary section of rooms or is disembarked as appropriate it seems this COULD be a game changer to restart cruising ? It seems apparent that the tests are getting faster as well as more accurate with new ones coming out often. Your opinion?
  12. I see no valid reason that a cruise ship cannot designate a few book shelves as a take one leave one for cruisers. It cost them literally zero as books will be donated by passengers and replenished by passengers. I also think there are many, me included, passengers who would attempt to keep the books orderly and even toss damaged ones. I have stayed in many hotels, hostels, etc all over the world that have small areas for take one leave one. Often a lot of travel books are left there along with a wide variety of paperbacks as well as a few hardbacks. If this small service cause

  14. I sure never saw a free shuttle at Laem chabang port for bangkok....It is almost a two hour drive and the taxi mafia wants ten times the normal fare. From where the ships dock to the highway is also over a mile walk to escape the industrial port and be able to catch a baht bus or taxi at normal Thai rates to bangkok or pattaya. Shame on thailand for allowing the taxi mafia to RULE this port.
  15. "Now, there's a catch. The test is only 97% effective. So you still want to wear a mask. But isn't 97% of something better than 100% of nothing?" The article never said this was the be all end all solution. It does however seem to me to be at least one giant possible step to get back to some sort of normalcy in travel and life. I would hope that eventually it could be a self administered test that could be done daily if warranted and would allow people to enter all types of events, restaurants, bars, airplanes, cruises, hotels, etc by having their phone scanned. Sure some false
  16. from google: Which Princess ships have covered pools? The following ships all have covered/indoor pools: Coral. Island. Grand. Golden. Star. Diamond. Sapphire. Jun 28, 2011
  17. https://www.fiercebiotech.com/medtech/united-airlines-to-offer-covid-19-testing-starting-from-sfo-to-hawaii yes united is using the abbot labs test as the quick version...never said it was accepted by hawaii....
  18. it was from jim cramer the stock guy
  19. This is the direction United Airlines is moving. Seems to have good potential for Cruise Industry as well. Vaccine is still far away and even then many will likely refuse to take the shots. You can wait for the vaccine. Be my guest. I hope we have something by the end of the first quarter of 2021. I don't think we can wait that long. Which is why I hope that Abbott Labs (ABT) can bring back some normalcy to this country -- and the world -- with its BinaxNOW rapid antigen test for Covid-19 along with its amazing Navica app that shows if you are safe to be admitted to
  20. 2 months of cruises a year , one spring, one fall for over 10 straight years....so yes am missing it but also trying to come up with new adventures for next couple of years if necessary. Not very many places that I can go now that I want to visit. Thailand and Viet Nam are old standbys but they are shut down pretty tight now and don't seem likely to open again anytime soon. Mexico is a maybe...or may just stay home in Hawaii which is not all bad.
  21. My guess is highly doubtful....that is only about 4 months away and I will be amazed if all the ports are open by then.
  22. yes genting bought NCL in 2000 and sold them in 2007.....star cruises was the semi model for NCL ships... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genting_Hong_Kong
