We may have just had our last cruise

Yep. I met up with an old friend during the week. We both love cruising but have never cruised together. She suggested a NZ cruise out of Sydney next year preferably with Princess. I readily agreed, then we looked at the prices - $4k each for a shared balcony cabin 😳 and nothing available for a solo (if her mother were to join us and I decided to cruise solo) -
Good evening. It’s autumn here but the autumn colours aren’t out yet. Nevertheless, we decided to visit Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens in the Blue Mountains. We spent 2.5hrs walking the various areas of these gardens. Close up photos are courtesy of DS who said ‘it’s not quite Butchart Gardens, is it?” but he was happy with his photos in the end. Tomorrow, many of the walks in the Blue Mountains are closed due to the heavy rainfall expected ( 25 to 75mm)

Anyone watched the movie “Triangle of Sadness” starring Woody Harrelson? This is not a recommendation & I would hope that no cruise ship has inadvertently shown it on board. It’s set on a luxury cruise boat which is why I started watching it but it has the grossest sea sickness scene - involving most of the cast in the luxury dining room (the scene just goes on and on and continues in their cabin bathrooms - ugh) That was the point I stopped watching. Then I did a review search - and discovered yes, it’s a black comedy. Anyone watched Zero Day on Netflix with Robert De Niro? I only managed 2 episodes despite the interesting concept. The myriad of extreme closeups of De Niro’s eye was off putting. At that point I was thinking this limited series should have been called “Robert De Niro’s eyeball”

The ones in Wilsons Prom were strategically placed just a liitle way up the main road from where tourists re-enter the main road from lookout pull-outs or beach parking. I can see the need for the same on the very popular and lovely ‘12 apostles” drive with so many more stops at lookouts and beaches. We did that drive back in 1989 a year before the arch of the London Bridge collapsed into the sea, leaving two tourists stranded and needing to be rescued. Another apostle collapsed into the sea in 2005. Would have loved to have visited the ‘12 apostles’ again on our trip but as we work full-time, our vacation time is limited. I flew home after our 3 days in Melbourne. DH remained in Melbourne for work. He arrived home yesterday, having driven the 800km distance up the freeway, in one day.

I hope both sites are wrong in their predictions. I hope that you and your son & everyone else on this thread preparing for the arrival Alfred stay safe & have minimal impact on your properties. We received notification today from most of our clients in the cyclone zone that their businesses were closing Thursday and Friday. -

Apologies if this is a stupid question but would the route on a domestic flight from Cairns (which I am aware is much further north and currently not affected) be impacted by the cyclone? They are due to fly Cairns to Sydney. Arriving Thursday eve. Just curious if the arrival time is likely to be delayed. Thanks -
One of the Fred Olsen ships was docked at White Bay yesterday - the Bolette. Not a very clear photo (ship is on the far left).

Not the best photo but the view from the flight today from approach to Sydney Airport from Melbourne. The ship on the left is Fred Olsen’s Bolette berthed at Sydney’s 2nd cruise dock, White Bay. If you squint and use a magnifying glass 😆 you might see the Celebrity Edge too docked at the OPT in front of the Opera House.

Greetings from a cool & overcast Melbourne. Started the day with a visit to the large & long running Queen Victoria Markets in the city. Big variety of fresh produce on offer. Wished we had visited on the first day here so we could have stocked up. The wide range of seafood, meats & cheeses (all indoors) plus the variety of fresh fruits and vegetables (outdoors under cover) were all very tempting. Instead, we indulged in mid morning fresh pastries and French cakes with coffee 🤤 Our plan after that was to catch a tram (96) from the city direct to St Kilda Beach but the weather wasn’t favourable. Instead we hopped on the free Heritage Tram 55 that does a loop of the city centre. It was supposed to have a recorded commentary but it wasn’t working - so the driver said - please knock on my door and I’ll answer any questions you have. Next we discovered a large modern indoor shopping complex over 3 levels and did a bit of retail shopping. Managed to resist buying the Titanic lego model for $999.00 😳 at the Lego store. Followed this by a visit to the stunning State Library of Victoria located nearby. Beautiful architecture throughout but the La Trobe Reading room with a dome ceiling was a must see. They had a free exhibit showcasing the history of books with rare volumes from the collection on display. Very interesting. A while back I read a superbly researched book of historical fiction “The Birdman’s Wife” by Melissa Ashley about the naturalist John Gould and his talented artist wife Elizabeth. Was delighted to see a book featuring her work in this exhibition (1848). Final stop was the Accidentally Wes Anderson photographic exhibition. DS and I are a fan of his films and I loved this photographic showcase of travel in all its forms around the world inspired by Wes Anderson’s unique colour palettes. Returned to the hotel via Melbourne’s famed laneways and we may have indulged in more treats along the way. I think the kms we walked today only just burned off the calories we consumed. Although the free trams are plentiful in Melbourne city centre, it is also a very walkable city.
