  1. I also do not like a real hard bed. I spent 10 days on the Nieuw Statendam in October and found the bed was very comfortable! Had some great sleeps! Enjoy your cruise!
  2. I've read the same things about their local currency. We also have to get from the port to Old Town and was thinking of the bus. I did read that taxi's take Euros. Having said that I did buy 100 kuna to cover bus, toilets, ice cream, water/drinks. Although the smallest denomination I got from the bank was 10. Good luck!!
  3. Thanks Cruisemom42 for the help!!
  4. We are in Rome only one day/evening, on a Sunday at the end of our cruise. We are disappointed we won't be able to see the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, etc. as there are no tours. We do have other things lined up but would like to at least stroll by this area and take some pics - any suggestions? Is a taxi our best option? Our hotel is near the Spanish Steps. Thanks!!
  5. Glad to know....one thing crossed off my list!! Many thanks!!
  6. Thanks for the tip....I've only purchased duty free on the way home before!!
  7. Thanks for the tips!! I also am afraid to put wine in my checked bag...especially red wine :). Can't wait to try gelato in Italy!!
  8. I have looked at Air Canada's website for duty free purchases but they do not list wine just other liquors. I am going to call them. This will also be my first time in Rome!!
  9. I did look online for Air Canada duty free and while they offer liquor, ice wine and champagne I did not see any red or white wine. I will give them a call. Thanks for the help!!
  10. HI everyone, I have a question about transfer from Rome airport to cruise terminal; we are booked on the Nieuw Statendam leaving on October 17th at 5 PM and our plane is scheduled to land at 9:05 am; we have booked a private transfer from the airport to the ship and from my research some sites are giving me up to 2:30 hours for the transfer and some other are mentioning roughly 1 hour for a private transfer... Am I giving myself enough time for this transfer.... Any assistance would be appreciated...… Thanks. We are also arriving on the 17th at 9:05 am from Toronto and are booked on the Nieuw Statendam. We have a HAL transfer lined up that the TA arranged but she couldn't tell me how soon we would be leaving the airport. She did say it could take up to 1.5 hours to get to the port, with traffic. I think that is enough time but of course there are always flight delays, etc. My concern is how can I purchase the allowed bottle of wine when arriving as from searching online it appears I can't buy it at the airport on arrival. It seems we may have to check our luggage at the terminal and then take a shuttle to the port town and walk 15-20 minutes there and back to purchase at a small shop.
  11. Thank you both so much for replying. I thought it might be possible to buy wine in town and use the shuttle, but not having been at that port before, it is hard to know!!
  12. Is it possible after arriving by the ship's transfer to then take the shuttle into the port town (and return by the shuttle) to buy wine before boarding? Just wondering after reading there is no walking allowed in the industrial port area. We land in Rome and are being taken directly to the port without a chance to purchase the allowed 1 bottle of wine each. I've also read in other topics that you cannot buy wine at the airport when arriving. Thanks for any help with this!!
