1. I was on Oasis a couple of weeks ago.

The put electric plugs on top of the desk now similar to Allure. Can plug in multiple wires.

The doghouse, similar to Allure, has been added to Boardwalk on Oasis.

The deck 11 lounge, former Concierge Lounge, is now a lounge for D, D+ and P. Concierge is still there.

3 main dining rooms restyled for DD which has been postponed.

    Deck 5 - Silk

    Deck 4 - Grande

    Deck 3 - American Icon

Yes, "secret balconies" are now gone.

    More later

  2.
I have been watching this discussion closely - Our extended family of 21 people ranging in age from 82 to 14 months will be cruising in June 2016. We haven't booked yet - but will as soon as the listings for that time frame are available. We have cruised many times together in the past 20 years. The one thing we like about cruising is that everyone can go off and do their own thing during the day - and come back to meet up as a group each evening in the Main Dining Room.

We were planning on sailing either on the Oasis or Allure (depending on the schedule/itinerary) however we are now very concerned. If in fact RCCL does decide to roll out DD on Oasis and Allure before 6/16 it would definitely impact our plans. Since RCCL isn't giving specific dates for the DD roll out we will probably decide not to take this risk and book on the Freedom instead. Disappointed because we had not experienced the Oasis class of ships yet - so since Freedom is NOT planning to switch to DD we will probably play it safe and cruise the Freedom again.
I would go ahead and book Oasis class and not worry about DD coming. I spoke to a couple of experienced waiters last week and they said that the company has postponed it indefinitely on the two big ships due to plenty of complaints. The company does read the official post cruise reports on the internet that we are requested to fill out.

American Icon on deck 3 - Breakfast, lunch (Tutti salad on seadays) and traditional dining (early and late seating.)

Grande on deck 4 - hybrid MTD converting to trad. for late seating. Fewer chairs and tables then silk.

Silk on deck 5 - Full time MTD from 5:30 PM on. Crowded with many tables, women with strollers had an adventure weaving from entrance to their table.
  3. We just got off Oasis this morning. As reported before, the 3 main dining rooms now have different decorating schemes which adds to the experience of the cruise without imposing the DD reported problems.

Silk on 5 had the Asian flair with deep reds but all 3 couples in our group agreed that the tables were pushed together more so then the other two decks and it added a bit of unpleasantness to the room. Silk is the only full time MTD dining room.

Grande on 4 seemed more spacious with fewer tables crammed in. However it is a hybrid creation with MTD running until 6:30 PM or so. After that the staff lets no one else in and the room slowly empties out until 8:30 when it converts to a second Late Traditional room. I think that Oasis does this because of the heavy South American contingent on board; this group tends to prefer dinner at a later time.

We did the Tutti lunch a couple of times, partly to check out American Icon on 3. Interesting decor here.

All these restaurants had the same dinner menus and might represent a future compromise over the DD vs Trad/MTD schemes battle. Possibly add one or two special choices each night geared to each restaurant.

Oasis class has tremendous over capacity compared to any Princess ship, which is why the latter needs $@#&* beepers. As Bill said up thread, we won't go near any ship that uses beepers.

  4. People getting off the Quantum are also reporting problems with the photo CD. Evidently you need some kind of updated software to read the photo files and RCI supplied the software to these Quantum cruisers after the sailing. Check with Miami.

The Freedom class is a stretched Voyager class with the same number of elevators. I would never take any of these three ships on a crowded holiday cruise.

  5. If a "wave" can knock a passneger off a deck on the biggest ship in the world, I'm never stepped outside my cabin on a Carnival ship again

While many are going to comment on him getting "knocked into the water", the issue that is being discussed and is actually quite scary is that they didn't know he went overboard. Maybe the ship holds too many people and they can't keep track of them?

You are pretty much an exclusive Carnival cruiser. You gonna tell me that a Carnival ship knows where every passenger is 24 hours a day?

Get real, Walker is a scumbag tort attorney

  6. The Port of Palm Beach (not a very big port) now has a new older ship sailing gambling and boozing junkets to the Bahamas. It is a former Carnival ship with the red funnel painted yellow. Appears to be a ship prior to the Fantasy class. Any ideas what it might be?

New moniker is the Grand Celebration.

  7. It's not as easy as you might think. You have a time frame to use this certificate. It must be used 6 months from the date it was issued.

I think it is unfair to be forced to find a cruise to fit "their" schedule and not ours. With 15 cruises booked from January 1, 2015 to April of 2016, there isn't much wiggle room.

    Bingo. :D

Our cruising plate is also full. We have 18 cruises booked between now and April, 2016.

Holy cow! , as the late great Scooter would say.

And that is how you become Pinnacle.

For that kind of repeat business, they could give you a total freebie. ;)

  8. We had the same issue when we used our accumulated Marriott Vacation Club points to swap for a week each on Oasis and Allure a couple of years ago. The offer said the fare was included BUT we had to pay taxes, port charges, etc. in cash and it wound up costing almost $650 for each week. That is a good price for an ocean view balcony cabin on those ships but still...we had to pay additional money.

We can do a swap in 2015 again and will try the big new Disney ship; I'm guessing the same result will happen with that as well.
