It can't be a casino offer if they haven't sailed since 2009 so how does everyone feel about this? I'm still waiting for a full refund from a cancelled cruise and see Princess giving away cruises!

Please notice the first line... Let's PRETEND.     The post is just for fun and some enjoyable day dreaming.

    It's not a real offer.

Happy to share. I know the reviews here on CC were a big help to me when planning. Enjoy your trip! Aloha.

Thank you for your wonderful review.

    May I ask two questions?

    1) Could you tell us which ports used the tenders to go ashore?

    2) If you don't take excursions in any of the ports - is there a town right there when you get to shore or do you need to take a taxi or shuttle to a town to "look around".

    Thanks!

  3. You might look in to the Ketchikan taxi tours.    We did that a few years ago and they were about 75.00 pp for about 4 hours.  They have "usual places" but will also customize the drive to what you want to do and see.    We loved it.

Hope you heal quickly -  that's not a fun way to start a trip.

  4. What are the advantages of NB vs SB Voyage of the Glaciers on Princess - other than looking an length of port times?

I've done SB a couple of times and "need" to go to Alaska again in 2020.   I love the SB itinerary but wonder am I missing anything by not trying NB.

It looks like most of the excursions are the same - except of course the disembarkation point.

    Thanks.

You become Elite on your first cruise after completing 15 cruise credits.

If you already have 15 you should be Elite from the start of your next cruise.

Does it only say Platinum on your Circle account? If so you should use the 'Contact Us' feature on the website to ask why.

The second of my two solo cruises last year were Cruise Credits 15 and 16 for me. No that didn't entitle me to move up halfway through.😖  But if your last cruise was #15 you already are Elite.

Perfect thanks so much. I am currently at 12 - but have a 1 credit and a 2 credit already schedule. That will get me to 15 full credits.  Bummer that they didn't make you Elite but at least you'll have it for the next one.

This is what I was reading that lead me to believe that you had to "complete" the cruise with the 16th credit.

    ELITE

From your 16th cruise credit on, or 151+ cruise days

    Thanks again.

  6. We are going to be staying two nights in NYC in October before our New England/Canada cruise.

We purchased the Princess transfer from the hotel to the port.

Does anyone know how the pick up works?

We are wondering if we can check out of our hotel, leave the luggage and then do a little sightseeing in the morning. Do they do multiple pick ups or only one?

We "can" board around 1 and sail away is at 4pm.

Thanks in advance for your time.

  7. If I will be starting my cruise as a solo trip  would I be granted Elite status at the beginning or end of the cruise? I will be credited with #16 and #17 on this cruise.

At the end of the cruise I would have 17 cruise credits.

The Captain's Circle info says when you received your 16th credit you become Elite.

    Just wondering.    Thanks.

  8. We'll be going to Acadia in October via a Princess cruise.

They have an excursion that is a 3 hour "guided walk" that is listed as strenuous.

    Has anyone done this walk?

Do they consider it strenuous because it's three hours (almost) of walking, or are there significant changes in altitude?

Thank you in advance for any information.

  9. Does the vendor want you onboard an hr prior ?

If its not reserved seating, you definitely want to do that.

Maybe stay in Girdwood the night before , about 45 miles south of Anchorage, if you're concerned.

Thank you for the recommendation. We're staying the week in Anchorage - with a one night stay in Seward. I think one more hotel and I would push the hubby over the edge.

  10. We are doing the same itinerary you are. We are planning on leaving our hotel in Anchorage at 5:30 am so we can enjoy the drive to Seward and make any stops we want for site seeing and photos. Major Marines requires you check in an hour earlier than your excursion.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was planning on being there early - but now will make SURE to be there a couple of hours early.

    Have a great cruise!

  11. What time of year, tourist traffic gets heavy in the summer. I would say 3 hours is a good window, maybe more if you want to stop and take pictures or stretch your legs.

I will be the week of May 14th. We figure to drive straight to Seward, do the cruise and spend the night. Then the next day slowly may our way back to Anchorage. We want to make several stops including the Wildlife Center.

    Thanks.

  12. The tunnel is to Whittier, not Seward.

It's about 125 miles from Anc to Seward. I always make several stops so i can't say what it SHOULD take, but all the resources say to allow 2 1/2 - 3 hrs for drive time.

Wonderful - I think I'll plan for 3 hours just to be safe. Thank you!

  13. We are going to be driving from Anchorage to Seward for a Kenai Fjords Cruise. (on a Monday if that matters)

We need to be there for an 11:00 sail away on Major Marine Tours.

What time would we need to leave Anchorage to make it there (a little early)?

I know there are tunnel time issues - but I'm not sure how long it takes to get from Anchorage to the tunnel and then the tunnel to Seward.

    Thanks in advance.

  14. You take off your shoes and leave them on benches where you put on the boots.

They are just a rubber boot. You should be sure to bring / put on an extra pair of socks.

Not only for warmth but to help with padding in the boots.

I did the excursion a couple of years ago and didn't bring an extra pair of socks.

By the end of the excursion I could barely walk and (about 6 months later) lost a toenail.

Sure wish I would have paid more attention to folks on this board.

The hike to the glacier is over the moraine and thus a very rocky uneven surface.

It was a wonderful excursion and I would do it again - in a heart beat... with extra socks.

    Enjoy!

  15. Thank you so much everyone for the replies.

We have decided to only rent the car in Skagway. I purchased the Murray's Guide. VERY helpful indeed.

In Juneau we will do a Mendenhall Glacier / Whale Watching trip.

In Ketchikan we will do the Misty Fjords boat trip... and pray for no rain. ;)

This is my 5th cruise/trip to Alaska - but my husband's first. I NEVER thought I'd get him on a cruise ship so I want to make this as hassle free as possible for him (in hopes that he'll do it again sometime).

    Thanks again.

  16. We are thinking about renting a car in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan to provide a little more freedom and comfort than the ship excursions.

I'm looking for info on where/how to pick up the car. Can you walk from the port to pick up the car?

Any pros or cons from folks that have done this?

We will be traveling in mid May of 2018.

    Thanks.
