  1. My wife and I had this conversation last night based on state dept warnings. We are currently set to sail on Sun on the Eclipse. We tried to weigh all of the scenarios we may encounter and if we would be ok with worst case events there... We arrive in Santiago, Chile and the cruise gets cancelled all together - we are ok finding lodging and turning it into a land vacation in Chile We are on the cruise and no port will let us in - we are cool with a long cruise to nowhere knowing the cruise will probably end early and be refunded based on Millennium cruises earlier this year. We arrive in the final port to disembark and they won't let us off the ship - this one is a biggie as the current administration said with the Grand Princess he would rather leave them on the boat the keep the numbers of cases down in America....not spreading it, just keep the numbers where they are - being a US citizen and the cruise ending in a US port we are confident we would not be held hostage too long by our own country Airline travel would be taken away from us in the time we are gone - we are prepared to rent a car and drive from San Diego to Chicago. We weighed pros and cons. We are going.
  2. I am not someone that likes to play dress up. I wear jeans and tshirts to work and I own 2 suits. Suits take up room in a suitcase. My wife wants to dress up. I decided to be unconventional and I'm wearing my kilt.
  3. I appreciate the info. We were able to get a private tour in Manta. It's always nice to know what you're walking into. Sometimes you can find a nice little bar mixed in with those tshirts for a quiet afternoon of people watching.
  4. We jumped onto a S American cruise last minute and are trying to see what ports are DIY and what we actually need some sort of excursion for. We understand that sometimes when you DIY you run the risk of missing some things and we are ok with that. We actually enjoy strolling through markets and streets over a crowded bus....again, the bus is necessary at times and everyone vacations differently. Are Manta, Ecuador and/or Caldera, Costa Rica DIY ports? Are there cabs? Are there HOHO busses? Is it safe to DIY? Suggestions? Recommendations? Thanks in advance
  5. Came here to say this. We were of the many on Millenium cruisers that had itineraries changed and cruises cancelled. Celebrity took care of everything for me. They took into consideration of the pre/post days we had we well as the class we booked....we had booked Premium Economy and we got rebooked in Business. I was charged zero nor did I have to make the phone calls. After the SNAFU we just had, I will always book through X...or whatever cruise line I happen to be traveling with at the time.
  6. Thank you for the quick reply. I agree tipping is subjective. I appreciate the average number to give me a starting point. Being this is our first suite, I'm not sure what to expect...so I'm sure it will exceed my expectations .
  7. Would you be in a position to suggest the current sliding scale for tipping a butler. I have pre-paid tips but always give a little extra to the ones that stand out. I worked in the service industry so I am well aware there is a lot going on that we don't see. This is my first suite so I've no idea where the starting point is...$5/day? $10/day? 10 day cruise=$100? I do understand that this number is up to the passenger tipping. Is there a standard like at a restaurant in the states of 15%-18% for a tip?
  8. Hello all....so I have made a quick change in ship and destination and I was just curious about some things. I was on the 3/14 Millennium sailing and was told when I called in they are offering 100% FCC for anyone that wants to cancel. I just swapped to a new cruise same time. So now I'm going to S America. This thread wasn't set for 3/14 questions, but there are many looking for info. If you ask, I will do my best to answer. I did post in the roll call. I went from AQ aft(1133) to a Sky Suite(2137)...mainly because there were no AQs left. I have sailed the Reflection and I believe the Eclipse is in the same class. Anyone been here? Good room? I know this ship hasn't had it's makeover yet...another reason I'm bummed about missing the Millennium...is there a Retreat or does that come with the makeover? I know about Luminae and am pretty excited. I know I will have a butler and that still feels weird to me. It's just a level of pampering that I'm not accustomed to. I guess it would be nice to know there will be cold bottled water in the fridge in the afternoon or morning. Maybe breakfast in the room....but that just feels like room service. That reminds me, does Luminae serve breakfast? Any other extras that come with the suite that a first timer couldn’t possibly know?
  9. I just posted this in the roll call for this cruise So I talked to X tonight. As has been mentioned before, it really feels like dominoes are going to start falling. I started my call the same way I did my last...I know you've been getting a lot of calls regarding the Millennium and I'm not looking to cancel I'm just looking for some information. He didn't have anything new that I hadn’t already seen here. I wanted to see if I could simply transfer my booking to another cruise roughly the same time just in another part of the world. He put me on hold to see if restrictions had changed for this cruise. He came back and said yes, I could transfer my cruise to another cruise and there was a $100pp change fee. That might be their normal policy, but I didn't know that so it was good news for me. My wife and I have had vacation set for over a year at work. Other people have planned vacation time around us being out. I still want to see other places so it's not a huge ordeal to me. The guy I was talking to did tell me to wait until tomorrow to make the change because it looks like something is being done tomorrow.....cancelling all? offering FFCs?...he just said I might could save the $200. What he didn't have a clear answer on was, if I originally booked my air though X, and they have changed my flights for the new itinerary, would they change them again for my new cruise. At the risk of sounding greedy or entitled, I'm kind of leaning to they should change my flights. The reason I gave for inquiring about changing was that I didn’t want to float around for 10 days because ports won't let us in, nor did I want to be quarantined. I'm still cruising with them and spending my money with them. Ports are already turning boats away and there are ships quarantined so these concerns, I feel, are justified. There is still a lot to deal with though. The trip we are looking at is booked for AQ. Suite GTY is about the same we paid for the current trip. Pick your own room is $2500 more. There is and aft suite available....I had an aft AQ. There is some negotiating that I feel can be done. I'm supposed to get a call from the supervisor tomorrow evening. I'm guessing he is waiting for whatever announcement is supposed to come tomorrow as well as look up the difference in cost for the flights. Either way, it does look like I will be able to be on a cruise ship roughly in the same time frame....just in a different part of the world. I'm not sure what the supervisor will say tomorrow, but up to this point, I am very pleased with the way it's being handled.
  10. I booked my air through X. I just got off the phone with them Their emergency travel team is rebooking flights in order of cruises. He said we should get an email by the end of the week or early next with our new flight info. The will take into consideration days pre/post cruise you already had set as well as the class...premium economy/business/etc. He said there would be no change fees nor would we be charged a difference in airfare.
  11. What did X say when you called them? What did your travel insurance company say when you called them?
  12. I 100% agree with the first sentence. I never really thought about it until our cruise in the Med. A woman fell in Santorini and broke her femur and had to be Medevaced to Athens. I bought it for this trip, but not cancel for any reason. Your last sentence is 100% subjective. This is my first trip to Asia so I am excited for most ports. I booked the trip for HK and Beijing so we are bummed to miss those. However, we still had Tokyo and Singapore on our list. Our Japan stops are almost identical temperature averages as what the rest of the trip would have already been. We also get 2 new stops that are an average 20-30 degrees warmer than the rest of the trip. I don't feel the stops are bad stops. Sure, there's Great Wall in Osaka, but there's also no Mt Fuji or sumo wrestling tournament in Shanghai. I have no issue with the way my particular cruise was handled. I can absolutely see how I may(probably would) be livid if I were on today's sailing or the 15th. Over a month out, and this issue was not the fault of X? I'm still getting a trip of a lifetime. You want to know what I'm not getting? High blood pressure from yelling about a company that won't fix their problem the exact way they want.
  13. you are correct that sometimes a one port change can be done quickly. Sometimes it becomes an extra sea day and you may never know why. You are also correct that the Millennium only had a few more sailings to be fixed. However, the Millennium is not the only ship over there trying to get into a port. I know Holland had some cruises out there. I would assume there are also some cargo ships out there. Also, the days for stops are switching. The stop in Taipei on the 3/14 trip was day 3. Now it will end up being 11 or 12. Just because a boat can get into a port on one day doesn't mean they can get in the next. I'm not positive, but I guess how many dock workers that will be on hand may affect it. I won't even pretend I know the labor laws/union rules in Taiwan
  14. this thread is the textbook definition of a popcorn thread
  15. Nothing will make the OP satisfied here. They have been ranting and raving in the roll call since the concerns came up. They feel they should get a full refund and X is in no way obligated to do that. If I remember correctly, this cruise was going with a larger land vacation into China so I get why you would be upset. This would be an expensive trip by anyone's standards. I'm not sure why you wouldn't insure a trip of this cost. X has already changed our itinerary....I'm on the same 3/14 cruise. I talked to X tonight. She told me they just got the email and emails will go out to passengers on Monday along with phone numbers to assist in rebooking air if booked through X. I posted the itinerary she gave me in the roll call....Tokyo>Osaka>Kagoshima>Nagasaki>Busan>Jeju Island>Taipei>Danang>Singapore 4 of these ports of call were on the original cruise.
  16. this topic is not about a worldwide health problem It's about a cruise line passenger irrationally shaking his/her fist at the sky because they are getting the exact results they expect due to a worldwide health problem. But make no mistake, this thread is not about the coronavirus
  17. you mean this article? https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5016/ the one that says the same as the one I posted. X's phones are jammed right now. My cruise is 45 days out so I know what they will say as things can turn for the better quickly. My point was, you statement was vague and misleading. While not untrue, there are not mass cancellations. There are the few short cruises from China to Japan that, more than likely, affect very few in this thread or on this board...I know that's an assumption, but I'm comfortable making it. I'm only asking for anyone making statements of this nature, to post the link where they are reading it so misinformation isn't being spread. I genuinely appreciate everyone that is posting links. There is a lot of info and a lot of sources, so thanks to the ones trying to make all of that info in a centralized place.
  18. Do you have a link showing the cruises that were cancelled? https://www.cruisehive.com/deadly-coronavirus-forces-cruise-lines-to-cancel-china-sailings/37185 these are the only cruises I have seen cancelled...to the best of my knowledge, these cruises were 4 and 5 day cruises leaving from China going to Japan...so the majority of the passengers would be Chinese. I'm going on the Millennium in March and it's still available to purchase on X's site. There are even Feb Asian cruises that can still be purchased....not nearly as many China stops aside from Hong Kong, but many of these areas already have confirmed cases. I'm simply trying to follow the data but just want more that hearsay...no offense
  19. I have read of many people here shaking their fist at the sky at this dreaded site. Problem after problem.....usually stemming around being able to get in to get to their cruise/planner I just recently started having issues. Getting some weirdly worded message like 'we have your info but just can't retrieve it right now. Try later', or something like that. I decided to clear my cookies, as that can be an easy fix for a site with saved login info. Sure enough, it worked. I was able to access my trip. The error message still happens from time to time, but clearing cookies always works. Now more recently, I have seen a few messages come up telling me to log out/sign out before leaving. I started doing that and I haven't had an issue since...week or so. I'm not saying we are all having the same issues and I'm not saying it will fix yours. Just saying, so far, these simple steps fixed my issues. I'm using Chrome on a MacBook Pro. I guess it's possible some issues are browser specific. Hope this easy fix (so far) can help someone else.
  20. Taipei, Taiwan - Busan, S Korea - Jeju Island, S Korea - Nagasaki, Japan I have tours schedules for other ports. From what I have read, these ports are maganable with HOHO buses, cabs or other transportation. We have done cities on our own before, but the language barrier certainly wasn't as strong. Thanks in advance
  21. My questions have been answered. Thank you for the quick replies.
  22. I found the laundry/dry cleaning/pressing prices in their FAQs. I seem to remember a special for laundry while on a 12 night cruise. Our upcoming cruise is 14 nights but will end up being closer to 3 weeks when you add a few days at the front and back. Am I remembering incorrectly or is this something X does on longer cruises...flat fee for a bag full or discounted price? I also remember reading getting some free laundry services but don't remember if that's a bonus for suites or Captains Club level. I'm still tossing the idea around of upgrading to a SS and laundry could certainly move the pendulum. Thanks in advance
  23. on a totally separate note, this post reminded me to check the app I downloaded about a year ago when we booked. Never saw anything about our cruise so I forgot about it. Not that we leave in just over 2 months, the app is updated with the cruise info. Got to see the menu for 14 nights in Asia....now I'm starving...lol
  24. another issue you may run into....not necessarily streaming wise...is what region Netflix is detecting you. If there are specific movies you are wanting to watch and Netflix is not detecting a US ISP, certain movies may be blocked. Not all regions have the same availability. If there is something specific you are wanting to watch, the safest bet is to download it.
  25. I appreciate the quick responses. Thank you
